Mission: Our intimate school community is dedicated to the principles of authentic, high-quality Montessori education. In our Montessori programs, we are proud to employ a constructivist educational method that speaks to both the heart and mind of a child. Guidepost Montessori at Broadlands is a growing community in a thriving neighborhood in Loudon County, Virginia. We serve families with toddlers through elementary-aged children, and we welcome your family to join our community. The Montessori method of education offers a knowledge-rich environment, through a child-led model. Children learn joyfully, through working with carefully-sequenced, hands-on materials. Your child’s enthusiastic exploration naturally leads to a solid foundation and advanced academics. We believe that an important part of our role is to serve as a support system for your family. We try to be here when you need us, with late pick-up hours and minimal school closures. And because the Montessori approach works best when manifested in a community of like minds, we hold regular campus events and get-togethers.

Ms. Beth Burton was born and raised in Northern Virginia. From a very young age, she knew she wanted to work with children. She began by taking on babysitting jobs, then worked at a child care center for several years. In college, Ms. Beth worked as a nanny and substitute teacher. After graduating with a B.A. in English from George Mason University in 2010, Ms. Beth joined The Boyd School and worked for several years as an assistant teacher. It didn’t take her long to realize that she had found her calling. Witnessing the “lightbulb moment” in her students, when after trying again and again to master a work or a lesson and then finally seeing it click, was one of the best feelings in the world. She very quickly obtained her Primary Montessori Certification from NVMI (Northern VA Montessori Institute at Belmont Green) and has been a Head Teacher in the classroom since.

In her free time, Ms. Beth enjoys reading, working on crafts, traveling and spending time with her family and friends.

If you’ve followed our school for the last few months you may already be familiar with Zohaib, one of our 3rd graders.

What you may not know is how big of a heart Zohaib has. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg (#RBG) thinks he’s pretty cool too and the two collaborated in the latest issue of @bravery_mag ! Editors at Bravery Magazine select one brave adult and one brave child and we are thrilled to have Zohaib noticed in such a wonderful light!

We’ll be linking the magazine for purchase in the comments AND linking Zohaib’s newly launched website where he is raising money and awareness for those in need.

We’re feeling extra inspired today- thanks Zohaib!

Today more than ever, parents are wanting to understand how children can return to school safely in a way that won't overhaul the normalization of a calm, socially-supportive learning environment. Montessori classrooms stand out in a few ways that allow for today’s heightened focus on health and safety without changing the way our children are naturally drawn to learn – where they remain in control of their days as the capable individuals they are!

It's Meet the Teacher Day!

Ms. Soo Chan has been working in Montessori classrooms since 2006. Her introduction to the Montessori Philosophy began when she was looking for a high-quality education for her daughter. She was immediately fascinated by the Montessori Method and witnessed the results in her own child. After having the opportunity to be an Assistant Teacher in Montessori classrooms for several years, she earned her Early Childhood Montessori Teacher Certification in 2011. Ms. Soo is a passionate, loving and responsible teacher who truly enjoys working with children. She brings her extensive Montessori experience as a guide and a parent into the classroom every day. She lives in Leesburg, Virginia with her husband and loving daughter who attended Montessori school for seven years from age three through Elementary. In her free time, she enjoys watching movies, drawing, playing piano, listening to music, and spending time with her family.

We're back! The 2020-2021 school year has offically begun, and we're loving having families back at school. Check in with us on how we're making health & safety our priority! Send us an email at [email protected] today!

Day 2 and our students are utilizing their independence when walking in each morning. We love having such confident students who start their days by changing into indoor shoes and washing hands!

Working with Trinomial Cube blindfolded is a great way to reignite a child's interest in familiar activities and take these to the next level of extension and abstraction.

M is in the toddler room and volunteered to show us how it's done. Way to go M!

Part 6 and the final question in our Parent Interview Series! 🥳🤩

We are so grateful to our parents for sharing their experiences with us. 🥰

If you are one of many considering a return to school, please reach out to us by calling 703-723-3364 or emailing [email protected]. We'd love to talk with you about our increased health and safety measures!

Multiplication in kindergarten? With beautiful hands on materials, our children learn to recognize patterns and internalize the mathematical relationships by working with their hands!
In this way, they are able to understand all 4 basic mathematical operations from a foundational level, negating the need for rote memorization.
Do you want your child to love learning? We do too! Join us!

Part 5 in our Parent Interview Series! 😊

Returning to school can be a time of questions and heightened anxiety for many parents. We interviewed a current parent on why she decided to send her daughter back to school and will be sharing her thoughts over the next few days.

When the upcoming 2020-2021 School Year begins on 8/27, our school environment will resume as your child's familiar home away from home, but there will be adjustments for everyone to adapt to.

For returning and new families, we encourage you to begin conversations with your children in advance of the first day of school, especially on topics such as morning drop-off (via Car Line), temperature checks and masks.

While it's anticipated children will be familiar with Mr. James, Ms. Becca and our staff, re-connecting with us after a break with masks could pose added separation anxiety or even require a little extra patience with rebuilding trust with our new identities.

To help ensure a smooth transition back to school, feel free to show your children our photos, print us out (ha!) and begin to set expectations. At our Virtual Meet the Teacher Luncheon on 8/26, our Guides with also touch on mask wearing to help prepare families and students.

We can't wait to see you next week! It's not too late to join us for the start of the 2020-2021 school year. 🥰

Part 4 in our Parent Interview Series!

Montessori children experience the wonder of math through engaging materials that inspire concrete understanding and joyful problem-solving, paving the way for a smooth transition to abstraction. In the Children’s House, children are exposed to rich and varied mathematical materials that build skills gradually. Each child will work with the decimal system into the thousands, will be exposed to addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division—and through this will develop a keen number sense, the foundation for a lifetime of quantitative and analytic fluency.
Montessori’s beautiful golden bead materials introduce the child to the concepts of the decimal system, place value, quantity, and the four operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Slightly more abstract and symbolic, the “stamp game” uses color-coded tokens (where colors express place value) to revisit the same four operations. Older children learn long division from the “racks and tubes,” where sets of beads allow them to literally divide a quantity that can represent numbers into the thousands.

Part 3 in our Parent Interview Series!😎🤩

Returning to school can be a time of questions and heightened anxiety for many parents. We interviewed a current parent on why she decided to send her daughter back to school and will be sharing her thoughts over the next few days.

We are forever grateful to our parent community here at Broadlands!
