As the worldwide leader in professional weightlifting, Eleiko is very proud to announce the new Eleiko IWF Weightlifting 100 kg disc. We are pushing the boundaries in terms of what is possible with one of the most essential weightlifting items.
With this unique 100 kg disc, we challenged ourselves to innovate on a different scale; the new disc has the exact same dimensions as our existing 25 kg IWF disc but now weighs 4x as much. We have worked with materials experts from different industries including aerospace and mining, to come up with a solution that encapsulates osmium granulates within the rubber composite. Osmium is the densest naturally occurring element on earth, with a density of 22.59 g/cm3 (twice as dense as lead).
The new disc allows for lifting on a completely different level. An Eleiko IWF Weightlifting Competition Bar can now be loaded up to 1,030 kg as per the IWF loading schedule. This eliminates any physical and mental barriers for lifters to reach their maximum performance.
The new colour has been agreed in close collaboration with the sport’s governing body, The International Weightlifting Federation. Orange, the blend between red and yellow, is a mixture of the energy associated with red and the happiness associated with yellow. Orange stands for joy, warmth, sunshine, freedom, happiness and determination. We want lifters to be strong and happy and nothing can inspire that more than orange discs.
We also anticipate that orange will shortly become a status colour within professional weightlifting as it will demonstrate a certain level of proficiency and strength. When a fellow lifter can answer “Yes” to the natural question “Are you orange?”, you know that they are a real lifter.

The harsh environment has significant wear and tear on the equipment and makes it extremely difficult to maintain. All of the equipment has either been donated, built by previous athletes, or obtained as "throw away" equipment from the base fitness center. You sometimes have to play tricks on yourself in order to get through some of those tough CrossFit workouts. One of my go-to strategies is developing a rep scheme that keeps me moving without reaching muscle failure. I’ve seen it fairly often when athletes hit muscle failure and can’t complete a rep, those negative thoughts start to rush in and they take more time than necessary to recover before the next attempt.
