For many people owning a home makes more sense financially than renting a home. Below are the top reasons people buy instead of rent.

1. Freedom With the Property
Owning your home means you can paint your living room any color you want, and you can put a new chandelier in the foyer without asking a landlord for permission. Sometimes, making these home improvements will also increase the value of your property.

2. Tax Benefits
Homeowners are allowed to deduct mortgage interest and property taxes when they file tax returns each year. This can be a significant tax benefit that makes owning a better option than renting.

3. Mortgage Costs Stay the Same
If you get a fixed-rate mortgage on a home purchase, your mortgage payment will not change. Unless a renter is in a rent-controlled building or neighborhood, their rent is at risk of rising each year.

4. Forced Savings
When a homeowner is making a mortgage payment, a portion of that payment is paying the loan down, giving the owner more equity in their home. This loan pay-down each month is a part of the mortgage payment, but it is the owner essentially investing each month in their own home, so it’s like forced savings that ultimately benefits the owner. With renting, the entire portion of a renter’s monthly payment is going to a landlord.

In the end it makes more sense, if you are financially able, to buy a home rather than rent. The freedom to do what you want with your home is something everyone should experience. The benefits of homeownership greatly outweighs renting. Are you ready to buy a home? Contact me today so we can discuss options!

In early spring, the temperature may seem too chilly and the ground might be too damp for many vegetables, but there are a handful of hardy performers that can go in the ground. Take a look at five vegetables that you can plant even before the last frost date has passed.

🌱Asparagus
Asparagus is a popular vegetable, often wrapped in prosciutto or seasoned with garlic salt. This vegetable is very versatile. Asparagus is a perennial vegetable, you can plant it once and harvest it for many years to come.

🌱Spinach
Spinach is one of the most popular addition to any salad or smoothies. Spinach grows quickly and you do not have to wait long to enjoy it.

🌱Peas
Peas are one of my favorite addition to any pasta salad and the nutrition benefits are outstanding. Although peas do not like freezing temperatures and they dislike heat more. If you do not manage to get out there early, peas planted later in April quickly catch up to peas planted in March.

🌱Lettuce
The cool wet weather of spring is the perfect time to grow lettuce and there are hundreds of varieties. Lettuce is the MOST popular salad addition taking on the flavor or virtually any dressing you use.

Every year during the Month of April we honor the valiant spirit of millions of Americas who are currently battling cancer and cancer survivors. April has been recognized as Cancer Control Month.

Last year, approximately 1.8 million people were unfortunately diagnosed with cancer in the United States alone. Cancer Control Month has a goal to raise awareness, reduce and expose cancer risk factors and ensure that people are provided with the information and support needed to adopt healthy lifestyles.

The second goal of Cancer Control Month is education to promote early detection. Understanding what causes cancer and what cancer may look or feel like increases the likelihood of individuals speaking with their care providers as well as health professionals identifying cancer at an early stage.

For those looking to support cancer research, consider donating to improve cancer treatment and increase the survival rate.

A cancer diagnosis can be extremely difficult for patients and their families. To reduce the burden of cancer, it is vital to support people before, during and after their diagnosis and treatment.

When setting up for a home inspection there are a lot of unknowns about the process. I’ve compiled a quick short list of things to expect and do for my clients!

🏠Use Someone You Trust
If you are new to the area don’t be afraid to reach out to anyone you’ve met recently for recommendations, or try Facebook community pages, they have great insight. Your realtor will also have extensive knowledge and connections to local home inspectors.

🏠Show Up
Any extra set of eyes during home inspections will help point out specific problems, especially ones you’d like to check out further. You have already walked through the home at this point and have seen things that the home inspector might not see at first.

🏠Don't be Afraid to Ask Questions
You Home inspectors has the necessary knowledge to evaluate whether or not a potential property has any issues that would make purchasing the home a bad decision. You should respect your home inspector’s knowledge but if something doesn’t look right don’t be afraid to ask questions.

🏠Get Pictures for Proof
The inspector will be heading into places that you won't want to go, such as the attic, roof etc. Ask your inspector to photograph any potential issues. Your home inspector should have all the tools necessary to inspect behind walls for any problematic issues.

Home Inspections are very important in the home buying process as this can affect any closing deals. Make sure you are diligent but also temper your expectations for a perfect inspection. It’s completely normal for homes to have imperfections that need fixing, focus on the larger more problematic issues first.

In the last year, comfort in your home has become a big priority. Behr Paint Company agrees and has announced their 2021 Color of the Year “Canyon Dusk”.

The brand describes the creamy color as one that “expresses a unifying desire to find solid footing on life’s journey, metaphorically connecting to the Earth, to re-establish mental and physical balance and provide a fresh start to the new year.”

“There is something so reassuring about dusk, the moment just after sunset, which brings the promise of a new day,” says Erika Woelfel, vice president of color and creative services at Behr. “The illuminating, free-spirited Canyon Dusk is a color that can be found in a variety of places, from an awe-inspiring desert landscape to the color of sunbaked clay. Wherever it is found, we share a collective need for these moments of comfort and inspiration in the days ahead.”

Home improvements have a rise in interest since everyone has been home more often. Behr knows this better than anyone and thats why they picked a color that can be incorporated easily into any home with any style.

“From seasoned DIYers to first-time painters, it’s inspiring to see people embracing opportunities to enhance their spaces during this time when we are all in our homes more than ever before,” said Jodi Allen, Global Chief Marketing Officer for Behr. “Whether creating an unexpected accent wall or a simple color change, paint can make a huge visual impact and it’s one of the most affordable and straightforward DIY projects to tackle.”
