In 2015, 👭 two Girl Scouts, Hailey and Kiley, went out on a mission to earn the Silver Award, one of the top awards given to Girl Scout Cadettes.
They sold t-shirts to raise funds for pet-sized oxygen masks to donate to their local fire department. 🚒
These small, round animal oxygen masks are made to fit snugly around a cat's face or a dog's snout.
Hailey and Kiley's efforts paid off in 2017, when a Bakersfield, California firefighter, removed a Shih Tzu's limp body from a burning home.🔥
One of the firemen volunteered to go back into the home to search for the 🐶dog, Jack after the owner described his favorite spot in the house.
As the firefighter laid Jack on the ground, he was lifeless, and his tongue was hanging out.
The pet oxygen mask was placed around Jack's snout. It was the first time the firefighter had ever used one.
Minutes later, a dizzy and confused dog opened his eyes, wobbling to his feet.
Jack spent a few days at the vet's office and made a full recovery.
Girl Scouts, Hailey and Kiley, earned their Silver Awards in August of 2017.
About 700 fires per year are caused by wild animals or pets, according to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). They recommend keeping pets away from stoves, candles, lamps, electrical cords, and space heaters.

☔️ Of all weather-related deaths in the U.S., flooding claims the most lives.
Why is this?
Because it's common to underestimate the power of floodwaters.
FEMA warns that 2 feet of water can sweep away most vehicles.
This includes trucks and SUVs.
Once a vehicle is caught in floodwaters, the driver has no control.
🚧 When flooding occurs, avoid low spots, canyons, dips, and washes.
It's not worth the potentially tragic consequences.

Happy autumn! With a new season upon us, please let us know if you have any additional insurance needs. We're here to help!
During these times of increasing attempts to clean and disinfect everything around us, the use of cleaning products has become more important than usual.
While mixing ingredients is common when cooking, it can be downright dangerous with it comes to mixing cleaning products. 🚫
⚠️ Here are some of the most dangerous combinations that people are likely to create accidentally:
❌ Bleach and ammonia - It can irritate your eyes and nose, as well as cause breathing problems.
❌ Bleach and vinegar - Mixing bleach with any type of acid, including vinegar, can cause toxic chemicals to form, which can irritate eyes, nose, and throat.
❌ Bleach and rubbing alcohol - This can impact the nervous system and heart, and it can be fatal.
❌ Bleach and Acetone - Also dangerous.
The bottom line.
Use cleaning products according to the directions on their labels and don’t mix them.

😩 There are few feelings more frustrating than realizing that you've lost something valuable, such as your wedding ring.
Yet, when it's merely hypothetical in the form of a visual brain teaser, then it may become a bit entertaining!
So here's a visual puzzle.
Find the lost diamond ring in the garden.
Hint: The ring's yellow band has a good-sized white diamond on it. 💎
True story: A Canadian woman once lost her ring, finding it 13 years later, wedged around an overgrown carrot in her garden!
When you think about it, any jewelry worn every day, such as a wedding ring, will be more susceptible to a loss.
By adding a rider or scheduling your jewelry, in most cases, you can expand coverage limits and extend protection to help cover additional risks. 💍
Have you been putting this off?
Let's talk about it!
Your friend, who is a notoriously lousy driver, asks to borrow your vehicle for a few hours. 🚙
You might feel inclined to say, “There is not enough insurance in the world!”
Instead, let your friend down easy with a kind but firm, “I don’t have the insurance to cover you.”
Because when you loan your vehicle, you are also loaning out your insurance.
And this can be a solid reason not to feel obligated to fork over your keys. 🔑
Although your friend’s auto insurance may kick in eventually, your policy is primary, and filing a claim could cause your rates to rise. 💥

The desire to capture that perfect selfie can be fatal, according to research published in the Journal of Family Medicine and Primary Care.
Creating crazy pictures to publish on social media is a thing for many, but no picture is worth your life. 😳
Experts recommend avoiding selfies around oceans, rivers, lakes, on mountains, over tall buildings...
...and uh, with sharks! 🐋
You would think that some things don't need to be said, but apparently they do!

🔨 While most home-repair contractors are honest and provide quality work, it's important to be aware of contractor fraud.
These scammers are known as "storm chasers" since they follow severe weather to prey on victims.
Sally signed over an insurance claim check to a contractor for $4,500 for repairs to their home. The contractor had originally contacted Sally by knocking on her door. Now, that contractor is nowhere to be found. With very limited info on the contractor - a business card with a disconnected phone number, she does not hold much hope this money will be recovered.
How can you protect yourself? 😳
✴️ Work only with established contractors who are licensed, bonded, and insured.
✴️ Require references.
✴️ Check with your local Better Business Bureau to see if any complaints have been filed against contractors you are considering.
✴️ Avoid payment-in-full upfront. Some contractors may require a partial upfront payment, but the amount should not exceed approximately 20% of the total estimated amount.
✴️ Never let work begin on your home or business until the contract is finalized.
✴️ Don’t pay a contractor in full or sign a completion certificate until the job is completed and you are satisfied with the work. Avoid making cash payments.

Here's wishing you and yours a safe and happy Labor Day!
Can you believe it’s already Labor Day? We sure can’t. Hope our friends and customers had a happy weekend!
An insurance agency receives a call from a client. 📞
On the other end of the line, a woman is screaming on the phone. "A bee flew in the truck! A bee flew in the truck!" Then she cried, "The truck is sinking! The truck is sinking!"
A woman had driven to a lake nearby to pick up her spouse and his boat after he was out fishing for the day. 🚣
When she backed her vehicle down the boat ramp, a bee flew through the passenger side window.
She then panicked and jumped out of the vehicle, completely forgetting to put the truck in park.
As her husband watched, their vehicle slowly rolled into the lake.😳
So how did this situation end up?
The bee survived. 🐝
The vehicle was totaled.
After the deductible, their auto insurance policy covered the loss.
There was no word on whether her husband caught any fish. 🐠
Here's to a safe and uneventful Labor Day Weekend! 🐝
As we head towards the last long weekend of summer, keep this in mind.
For your pets, fireworks are terrifying.
Many dogs and cats flee in fear because of their loud blasts.
Animals become panicked and confused.
As a result, shelters see a spike in the number of admissions during these times.
For this reason, be sure to keep them safe with doors and gates secure.
Some pets go missing, never to be found again.
Blowouts can be serious, causing about 75,000 accidents each year and killing over 400 drivers.
💥 If it happens, here's what experts suggest:
⭕️ Get a firm grip on the wheel. Try to keep the vehicle moving in a straight line without hitting the brakes.
⭕️ Gently press on the gas. Accelerating just a bit can help you regain control and forward momentum. Once the car has stabilized, ease off the pedal.
⭕️ Let the vehicle slow down and put on your emergency lights to alert others.
⭕️ Once your speed falls below 20 mph, use the brakes and steering wheel to pull to the side of the road and call for help.
While the odds of being struck by lightning are less than 1 in 1,000,000, some factors can put you at greater risk.
Here are five things to keep in mind during a lightning storm:
☑️ Don't stay outside.
☑️ Avoid contact with water. Lightning can travel through plumbing.
☑️ Avoid Boating.
☑️ Avoid concrete structures.
☑️ Avoid electronics plugged into the wall.
A lightning bolt carries around 20,000 - 30,000 amps of electrical current when it makes contact with the ground.
That's about 2,300 times more electricity than what is needed to power your washing machine!
Before closing on a home, here are some items you should check during your final walkthrough.
blog.allstate.com A crucial step before closing on a house: a final walkthrough. This is the last chance to make sure everything is in working condition. Here's what to do.
Of course, it's best to do this before the ceiling fan melts!
🐩 When it comes to walking dogs in warmer weather, it's best to put the back of your hand on the pavement for seven seconds first.
Experts say that if it’s too hot for the back of your hand, then it’s also too hot for dog paws. 🐾
So what can you do?
⚪️ Avoid mid-day walks.
⚪️ Walk them in grassy areas.
⚪️ Consider a pair of dog booties.
Your dog will thank you.

One 4th of July weekend, Alexandra, 13, and her brother Brayden, 8, were swimming near a private dock on the Lake of the Ozarks when they started to scream.
By the time the siblings were pulled from the lake, they were unresponsive.
Both kids were pronounced dead after being transported to the hospital.
These were NOT drowning victims.
A 120-volt AC (alternating current) leakage from a nearby boat or dock electrocuted them.
This little-known and often-unidentified killer is called Electric Shock Drowning, or ESD.
The main cause of ESD is faulty electrical wiring on boats or piers that causes an electric current to leak into the water.
Every boater who swims in a freshwater lake needs to understand this potential danger.
How can ESD be prevented?
◼️ NEVER swim within 100 yards of a freshwater marina.
◼️ If you are in the water and you start to feel tingling, DON'T follow your instinct and swim to the dock.
◼️ If you own a boat, exercise your boat's GFCIs/ELCIs as recommended by the manufacturer.
On a hot day, it can be so tempting to jump in the water while at a freshwater marina, but the potential danger just isn't worth it.

For teens, getting a driver's' license is ridiculously exciting. 😃
As for the parents, not so much. 😩
It's no secret that it's the lack of driving experience combined with immaturity that contributes to high teen driver crash rates.
At the very time, you are looking for ways to reduce the cost of your auto insurance, that's when you actually need to be increasing coverage limits.

During a BBQ, a woman stumbled and fell. She assured everyone that she was okay.
While she appeared to be a bit shaken up, Jane went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening, but she had actually suffered a stroke.
Had bystanders known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Jane would be alive today.
If even one of these tasks is a challenge, seek emergency medical attention.
⬜️ Ask them to smile.
⬜️ Ask them to repeat a simple sentence.
⬜️ Ask them to raise both arms.
Neurologists say that if they can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours, they can reverse the effects of a stroke.
But the challenge is getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and treated within 3 hours.
That's why it's important to know the signs.
