Get to know Belmont Ridge Elders Quorum members, activities and upcoming events.
The Bishop has asked all ward members to participate in our quarterly church cleaning assignment; we all use the building and are all asked to equally share in cleaning it. This includes brethren, sisters, and families/kids. March is our ward's turn again, and families associated with the Elder's Quorum have been assigned to conduct the cleaning on the Saturdays of 11 and 25 March.
To reduce the burden on everyone, we are again only asking each family to be involved one time during the month. Last names beginning with A-I are assigned to clean the chapel tomorrow, 11 March. Last names beginning with J-Z are assigned the 25 March cleaning. Cleaning both days will begin at 8am; please be prompt so we can all work together to complete the cleaning as quickly as possible. Upon arrival on the date you are assigned, please check-in with you date's leader for a cleaning assignment. (We will all help each other until all assignments are complete so all can leave together.) With good participation, we are generally wrapped up in just over an hour. Donuts will be provided!
Note: If you cannot make the morning you are assigned, please find someone from the other date to switch with and inform your date's leader as to who you are switching with. All are asked to please faithfully fill this assignment, as failure to participate places an unfairly greater burden on others.
(If you notice anyone I have inadvertently left off the below lists, please forward this note to them.)
11 March: Last names A-I (joined and led by Gregg Bowen)
25 March: Last names J-Z
Thank you, Brother Tommy Jackson, for your lesson this week on happiness. -- Some things to think about: What is happiness? What can you do to increase the positivity in your life? What act of service can you render to those around you? Are you valuing your personal relationship with your family members above material things?
Here's a great quote from the lesson:
“Anyone who imagines that bliss is normal is going to waste a lot of time running around shouting that he has been robbed.
“[The fact is] most putts don’t drop. Most beef is tough. Most children grow up to be just people. Most successful marriages require a high degree of mutual toleration. Most jobs are more often dull than otherwise. …
“Life is like an old-time rail journey—delays, sidetracks, smoke, dust, cinders and jolts, interspersed only occasionally by beautiful vistas and thrilling bursts of speed.
“The trick is to thank the Lord for letting you have the ride”
(Jenkins Lloyd Jones; quoted in “Big Rock Candy Mountains,” Deseret News, 12 June 1973, A4).
In thinking of Calderwood family's recent loss, I share this scripture:
"11 Now, concerning the state of the soul between death and the resurrection—Behold, it has been made known unto me by an angel, that the spirits of all men, as soon as they are departed from this mortal body, yea, the spirits of all men, whether they be good or evil, are taken home to that God who gave them life.
12 And then shall it come to pass, that the spirits of those who are righteous are received into a state of happiness, which is called paradise, a state of rest, a state of peace, where they shall rest from all their troubles and from all care, and sorrow."
(Book of Mormon, Alma 40)
In memory of Connor Calderwood.
"2 ...the alms of your prayers have come up into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth, and are recorded in the book of the names of the sanctified, even them of the celestial world.
3 Wherefore, I now send upon you another Comforter, even upon you my friends, that it may abide in your hearts, even the Holy Spirit of promise; which other Comforter is the same that I promised unto my disciples, as is recorded in the testimony of John.
4 This Comforter is the promise which I give unto you of eternal life, even the glory of the celestial kingdom;"
