January 25th was the National Bubble Wrap Appreciation day. Did you know bubble wrap was originally intended to be wallpaper? Created by two engineers Alfred Fielding and Marc Chavannes in 1957, bubble wrap did not quite suit the original purpose, but made it possible to ship the most fragile items without a worry of breaking them along the way. At Insight Eye Optique we work with the best laboratories that create custom made glasses for our patients. And bubble wrap is an important part in getting the coveted frames and lenses delivered to us intact, so that our patients can see well and do so in style!
Did you know, January 18th was National Winnie-The-Pooh day?!
Alan Alexander Milne was a British poet and renowned playwright before he created “Winnie-The-Pooh”, a children’s classic loved by millions around the world. Our practice sees many little patients on a regular basis. We love working with children and find it rewarding to help the little ones in ensuring their eyes are healthy, and getting that perfect frame for school or sports.
One of our favorite quotes from the book: “I think we dream so we don’t have to be apart for so long. If we are in each other’s dreams, we can be together all the time.”
January is Glaucoma Awareness Month. Having an annual eye examination is important for everyone, whether you wear prescription glasses and/or contact lenses or have perfect vision. A comprehensive eye exam is the only way for an early detection of glaucoma, which is the second leading cause of blindness in the World according to the WHO. Approximately 3 million Americans have glaucoma but only half of them know they have it. There is no known cure for glaucoma at this time, yet an early detection can help monitor and control the development of this eye decease. Undergoing an annual eye exam is very important, even if you are one of the few lucky people who do not need glasses or contact lenses to see!

I have been doing my absolute best, but Zoey and Hazel have been on their tablet WAY more than usual since we are staying home WAY more than before. With the increase in screen time, myopia, or nearsightedness, which was already on the rise, could be progressing in children more than ever before.
The Global Myopia Awareness Coalition had the brilliant idea of encouraging parents to recreate their kids’ favorite video games outdoors to give their little eyes a break, and in hopes of slowing down the progression of myopia.
We had SO much fun doing this, and I’d love to see what you come up with too! #Sponsored #GameOverMyopia
