We are in one of the toughest times in our nations' history, as we battle the Coronavirus and the economic havoc that it has caused, we once again come face-to-face with the long-term effects of racial injustice. Thousands of people have taken to the streets to speak out against fear and inhumanity, which is both inspiring for the commitment it represents and heartbreaking for its profound need. We must all do better to embrace equality and justice for all and solve this - together - as we are all children of God.

Click on the link below for a statement on the death of George Floyd and the ensuing riots from LCMS Missouri Synod President, Rev. Dr. Matthew C. Harrison, from June 2, 2020.

Seek First His Kingdom (Matthew 6:31-33)

Verse 7: Matthew 6:31 & 33 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 3 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Joseph’s brothers surely had every reason to be anxious! They had gotten rid of their father’s favorite son. Now they were experiencing famine. They looked to Egypt, where they heard there was food available. Joseph, was not making it easy on them to receive food, and even when he revealed himself, there was the anxiety of what they had done.
But Joseph showed them mercy and love, recognizing God’s plan in all that happened. Joseph had not stopped seeking God even in the worst of times. Those dreams that angered his brothers had come true. The love that Joseph then extended to his brothers is small compared to the love that God gives us when we seek Him first.

Can you spare a few moments to take my survey?

Our Savior’s Way is anticipating the resumption of “in-person” worship with the limitations of Virginia’s Executive Order for phased re-opening (50% capacity in the Sanctuary) and possible “drive-in” worship services in our parking lot, in addition to the weekly online services.

Returning to “in-person” worship services is our ultimate goal, but only if we as a church do everything reasonably possible to protect you and your family’s health and safety. Before the church building can open and services can resume, a phased approach to relaxing controls while managing risks is envisioned. How quickly reopening can occur depends on the course of the pandemic, federal and state laws, the church’s ability and resources to undertake protective measures, and your tolerance for risk and desire for personal protection.

It should be further acknowledged that the risk of contracting the coronavirus can only be managed; nothing we do can ever fully eliminate it. Attendance at services “in person” carries inherent risks of exposure to the disease, and the individual who makes the decision to attend must agree to accept this risk, as they do when entering any other public venue. It is highly recommended that individuals who are considered “at-risk” (those age 65+ and/or having a compromised immune system) not participate in “in-person” worship services until the limitations are lifted and the church can resume regular operations.

To accommodate the limitations mentioned in the Virginia Executive Orders, we ask that you register through “Sign-Up-Genius.” We believe that we should limit a worship service attendance to 200 at one time; if more people indicate a desire to attend an “in-person” worship service, additional services can be offered. Part of the expectations for providing a safer environment during the COVID-19 crisis is requiring a health questionnaire and temperature check prior to entry into the building. A “drive-in” worship service would be conducted outside, in the church’s parking lot, without the requirement for the health questionnaire or temperature check, providing that everyone remains in their vehicle for the whole time. Since we would need to limit such a service to 150 vehicles at a time, a “Sign-Up-Genius” would also be required and people would be asked to indicate their intention to participate.

It is important to us to gather your feedback to gauge where you and your family stand as we navigate these uncharted waters of reopening the church building. We hope you will take a few minutes to complete this survey by going to the link below and share your thoughts and concerns with us. The results will be shared through the mid-week email next Wednesday, June 3rd, with further information on when such worship services will be offered.

Verse 6: Revelation 1:8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”

Joseph went from Misery to Majesty. From near death by his brothers, slavery, deception, rejection and trials, he becomes the second most powerful man in Egypt! But God was not surprised by any of this, even if Joseph was. Joseph was in the right place at the right time, because of God, the Alpha and Omega. Even when human sin brings bad outcomes, God who is who was and who is to come, has the ultimate plan.

Toccata on King's Weston

Check out this wonderful bell performance that our very own Kylie Johnson, Traditional Music Director, put together for Sunday's online worship service. It took her many, many hours to pull it off and we are so thankful for her willingness to share her talents with us.

We're Alive (Ephesians 2:4-5) Hand Motions Video

Ephesians 2:4-5 “But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ - by grace you have been saved.”

We see God’s grace continuing in Joseph’s life. Even in prison Joseph found favor, and because of His love for Joseph and for the world, Joseph’s gift of interpreting dreams provides the next steps in God’s plan for Joseph and us. Joseph did a lot of WAITING on God. We can look and see God’s hand in the waiting. Joseph, like us, was not saved from his waiting by his works, but by God’s grace.

Be Strong And Courageous (Joshua 1:9) Hand Motions Video

Joshua 1:9 “Haven’t I commanded you, be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

After Moses had died, Joshua was appointed leader of the Israelites. God spoke these words to “Be strong and courageous.” Three times, He assured Joshua that he would not be alone. God himself would be with him as he led the nation to settle in the land God had promised.

In our continuing lessons on Joseph, this week we looked at how Joseph, though taken from his family, was not alone in slavery, in Potiphar’s house, or in prison. God did not preserve him FROM the circumstances, but IN the circumstances. Circumstances that would lead to good for him, his family, and eventually to all the world in Christ!

Take heart through our current troubles. We are not alone and God has great plans. ‘Be strong and courageous!”

I Believe (John 3:36)

John 3:36: “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.”

It looks pretty grim for Joseph in the account of his brother’s evil plot against him. They would have killed him, but they didn’t. They might have left him in the pit, but they sold him to merchants instead. What was not known to them at the time was how Joseph was IN God’s hands and their salvation from an eventual famine had already been set in motion, even in their sinful actions. We are ALL IN God’s hands in this as the promise of our Savior, Jesus, the Son who brings eternal life would come from the house of Israel.
