Beth Chaverim, Ashburn VA

Beth Chaverim Reform Congregation is a vibrant, community-centered Reform Jewish congregation in Ashburn, Virginia.

Beth Chaverim means “House of Friends” in Hebrew. And that is what you will find at Beth Chaverim Reform Congregation. We are a welcoming community, connecting with one another and centuries of Jewish tradition. We are filled with energy, warmth and spiritual meaning. We celebrate our diversity – we are young families, seniors, singles, teens, empty nesters, interfaith families, same sex couples, Jews by birth and Jews by choice. We are more than a congregation – we’re a family, a community and friends.

Note: If your picture is on our page and you wish to have it removed, please send us a message!

It's that time of year again when students prepare to go back to school. The Loudoun County NAACP has committed to donating book bags and supplies to Loudoun County Family Services for distribution to children in their program. Just this week they donated 881 items. However, they were not able to purchase some of the secondary items.

BCRC is asking members to help out by bringing the following items to the NAACP General Membership Meeting on August 20th from 7pm-9pm, at the Mount Olive Baptist Church, 216 Loudoun Street, SW, Leesburg, VA.

Items in need are as follows:

Tissues
Lysol wipes
Black Expo Dry Erase Markers
3x3 Post It Notes
Headphones/Earbuds with the case (these can be found in the Dollar Store)
Plastic bags: sandwich, quart and gallon bags
Hand Sanitizer
Unscented Baby Wipes
Plastic 2-Pocket Folders

Please find it in your heart to help with this effort.

Confirmation Shavuot Erev Shabbat
Friday May 18, 7PM

On Friday May 18, we will be holding a special Confirmation Shavuot Erev Shabbat service. Our confirmation class would greatly appreciate it if you could join them on their special evening as they confirm their commitment to Judaism and to Jewish life. Did you know that the ceremony of Confirmation was introduced by Reform Judaism? It was first done in the early part of 19th century in Europe and was brought to the United States about mid-century. It is typically held in conjunction with the festival of Shavuot, because of its association with giving of Torah. We hope to see you there!

TOMORROW EVENING! Have you been to a Jammin' Shabbat at BCRC? This is one of our most joyous traditions, where we celebrate the Shabbat with the music of our very talented in-house BCRC band. Our next Jammin' Shabbat will be tomorrow, Friday April 27, at 7 PM. We hope to see you there!

BCRC was among the 500+ member audience present to hear a former skinhead and a former gang member share their violent histories and transformational moments. Founders of the organization Life After Hate, these speakers called on us to respond to hate with compassion arguing that our compassion is proven to be the most effective tool for tempering extremist ideas. About 14 BCRC members (not all pictured here) were present.

BCRC and Interfaith Clergy were sponsors of the event. Special thank you to Ray Daffner who helped organize the event on behalf of Tikva, Bridges and BCRC.

Come join the fun at BCRC's Winter Escape!
Saturday, January 20th, from 3pm - 7pm.

It's the middle of January and everyone is starting to experience cabin fever! Get away and spend a relaxing Shabbat at our first Winter Escape, at the Freedom Center in Leesburg (site of last year's family retreat).

There will be fun winter activities for the whole family! If we have snow on the ground we may even have a snowperson building contest! There will also be indoor activities in the Freedom Center cabin for all ages. Pick out your favorite board game (labeled with your name) and bring it to play with the group as part of our ‘board game potluck’! We will provide soup and make-your-own sandwiches for dinner, and end with a s’mores havdalah around the campfire (weather permitting).

Everyone is invited for an afternoon of fun and friends, free to all BCRC members! Check your email for your invitation, or RSVP on our website, at https://www.bcrcva.org/event/bcrc-winter-escape.html
