Crossroads United Methodist Church

Our desire is that everyone - whether they enter our doors or not - would discover the sacredness of their own story, celebrate their spirituality, and fully enjoy an everyday life with God.

God is everywhere, in everything, and with you every day. Crossroads is a community that intentionally celebrates and extends God’s unlimited welcome and unconditional love to people both inside and outside the walls of a church building.

Our desire is that everyone - whether they enter our doors or not - would discover the sacredness of their own story, celebrate their spirituality, and fully enjoy an everyday life with God.

We are equally passionate about and committed to two forms that help us pursue our vision: one is the ministries centered here at Crossroads Drive, and the other we call “Imagine”. Through Imagine we meet in restaurants, bars, coffee shops, homes, yoga studios and in nature with people who have no interest in coming to a church building. We call this a “Both/And” church and through these two forms we are empowered to offer God’s radical grace and love in ways that enable people both inside and outside the walls to change the world one person, one family, and one community at a time.

TODAY LOVE WINS: Every day we have the choice to say “No” to hell so we can say “Yes” to God’s Kingdom of love on earth. All around you is the grace of God. Look for it and you will be blessed. In this way you will be choosing love for self and others. When that happens love wins and when love wins we all win.

Scripture: Titus 2:11 For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all people.

Morning Prayer: God, I will face many choices today. In reality I know that sometimes I will choose wisely and other times I will choose poorly. Before I make these important decisions help me to search my heart and listen for Your wisdom. How are my choices and my actions blessing others and revealing Your grace? In all that I say and do today, let me choose to speak and act with love. May it be so.

TODAY LOVE WINS: Every day we have the choice to say “No” to hell so we can say “Yes” to God’s Kingdom of love on earth. Today ask God to help you to choose love others as God loves you. When that happens love wins, and when love wins we all win.

Scripture: John 1:17b God’s unfailing love and faithfulness came through Jesus Christ.

Morning Prayer: God, let me experience hope through the love of Jesus Christ. Teach me to lean on Christ as the ultimate example of compassion, forgiveness and grace. Forever remind me that it is through Christ’s love that I convey love toward others and offer them the same love that he shows toward me.

TODAY LOVE WINS: Every day we have the choice to say “No” to hell so we can say “Yes” to God’s Kingdom of love on earth. In God’s Kingdom all of us are given unconditional love. Choose to love as best you can. Try to look at others without judgment, see them as persons who feel hurt as you feel hurt. Then watch how love frees your soul from the hell of resentment. When that happens love wins and when love wins we all win.

Scripture: Matthew 5:45 Here is what God does. God gives the best—the sun to warm and the rain to nourish—to everyone, regardless: the good and bad, the nice and nasty.

Morning Prayer: God, today more than ever, I ask You to help me guard my heart and mind so that I can see You in everybody I come across. May I remember that everyone is lovingly created to shine Your light in the world. May the light of Your love seen in me help others see their eternal value. I truly believe that putting this prayer into action will show how love wins when others feel loved by God with skin on. May it be so.

TODAY LOVE WINS: Every day we have the choice to say “No” to hell so we can say “Yes” to God’s Kingdom of love on earth. Instead of looking at the actions of others first, love should take us inward and ask what is in my heart? Is there love or ill will? Love for others begins in our own hearts. Let love begin there and you will see how love can win today, and when love wins we all win.

Scripture: John 3:17 God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again.

Morning Prayer: God, no matter how good a day I have, at some point there may be some sort of conflict, with co-workers, friends or even family. How often is my first response in the midst of a conflict to quickly point an accusing finger, deflecting blame or refusing to accept my own responsibility for the situation? How much better would it be if I could step back and look at the situation through eyes of love, rather than try to assign blame? Help me stop and search my heart and make sure it is in alignment with Yours. If I encounter conflicts today let my actions model those of Jesus, reacting in love and working together to put things to right. May it be so.

TODAY LOVE WINS: Every day we have the choice to say “No” to hell so we can say “Yes” to God’s Kingdom of love on earth. Ask God to help you make the choice to love today. When a negative thought comes, take a breath and say, “I choose love”. That’s how love can win today, and when love wins we all win.

Scripture: Lamentations 3:2 The faithful love of the Lord never ends! God’s mercies never cease.

Morning Prayer: God, knowing that your love is constant and unending is a great source of comfort and strength. The many circumstances of my life will change daily and seasonally, but knowing Your unwavering love is always with me, constant and true, helps me to move forward in dark times. Help me to live with my heart open to offering that same kind of love to others. Love is the key that unlocks relationships, brings healing, strengthens the faint hearted and leads us on. Jesus is our truest example. I want to love as Jesus loved. May it be so.

TODAY LOVE WINS: Every day we have the choice to say “No” to hell so we can say “Yes” to God’s Kingdom of love on earth. Today, pray for God to help you choose God’s love. Putting that prayer of love into action will show you and those around you how God’s love heals and never harms. That’s how love can win today, and win love wins we all win.

Scripture: Proverbs 10:12 Hate stirs up conflict, but love covers all offenses.

Morning Prayer: God, it is so easy for me to resent those who have hurt me. I have a tendency to want to lash out at those who bring pain into my life. Indeed, it stirs up a lot of conflict. Why do I choose to hold onto to resentment? Why do I choose to hold grudges? Why do I choose to live in what feels like hell? Is it true that love wins over the negative thoughts that I have of others? If so then my prayer today is quite simple. Help me to remember to love instead of ruminate on the hurt. Help me to believe that love is always greater than resentment. Help me to believe that love covers a multitude of offenses, and that love is always an option I can choose. Help me to believe that love wins. May it be so.

TODAY LOVE WINS: The Kingdom of Heaven is both here and far away. It is experienced both in life and in death. The way the Kingdom of Heaven is seen on earth is through our acts of justice and mercy. Over time love has the power to dismantle unjust systems. In that dismantling the Kingdom of Heaven rules and reigns supreme. Whenever the Kingdom of Heaven rules love wins.

Scripture: Revelation 21:25-26 Heaven’s gates shall never be shut by day, for there shall be no night there. They shall bring into it the glory and the honor of the nations.

Morning Prayer: God I find today’s scripture very interesting. Is it true that the gates of Heaven never close? Wow! What a sign of Your unconditional love and unlimited welcome. This scripture shows that nothing on earth or in eternity can separate anyone from Your never ending love. Help me to live today with a heart that is open to everyone I interact with. May Your love within me protect me from separating people into groups that I like or dislike. May Your love in me flow through me in ways that bring joy, laughter, welcome and hope throughout my day. For when that happens love is seen as the open gates to heaven on earth. And that’s how love wins over and over again. May it be so.

TODAY LOVE WINS: The Kingdom of Heaven is both here and far away. It is experienced both in life and in death. The way the Kingdom of Heaven is seen on earth when we bless our children, grandchildren or any other child. Children are precious and showing them love shows them how special they are. When they feel special love wins.

Scripture: I John 3:1 Consider how much love God has given to us, that we should be called children of God.

Morning Prayer: God, generally it is pretty easy to love a child – with their wonder and innocence. When it is not a child it can be much harder to love someone who looks, thinks, speaks and believes differently than I do. Some of that is fear; some of it is pride. My prayer today is that I am able to overcome fear, put aside pride and see everyone as You see them. Let me recognize them as Your child, just as I am. Let me love them as You love them. Then we all win. May it be so.

TODAY LOVE WINS: The Kingdom of Heaven is both here and far away. It is experienced both in life and in death. The way the Kingdom of Heaven is seen on earth is when we are generous and not frugal with our time and presence with others. Who needs your presence today? Your loving presence reveals the Kingdom of Heaven in the moment. In that moment love wins.

Scripture: Matthew 19:14 But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them. For to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”

Morning Prayer: God, give me the faith and innocence of a little child. Teach me that excessive pride and cynicism make it more difficult for me to experience the kingdom of heaven here on earth. Let me find ways to get in touch with the little child inside of me so that I may better experience Your loving presence. May it be so.

TODAY LOVE WINS: The Kingdom of Heaven is both here and far away. It is experienced both in life and in death. The way the Kingdom of Heaven is seen on earth is through our kindness instead of cruelty. What acts of kindness can you do today as a sign of God’s love overcoming any words or acts of cruelty? In doing acts of kindness you are showing how love wins.

Scripture: Luke 17:20-21 When He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered them, “The kingdom of God does not come with observation. Nor will they say, ‘Here it is!’ or ‘There it is!’ For remember, the kingdom of God is within you.”

Morning Prayer: God, there are times I wonder where You are and in a simple act you confirm You are there, right where You need to be. Meeting a simple need by a stranger holding a door or a friend helping out with a larger task I can’t do alone, these acts of kindness show Your love and caring through Your people. God help me to find ways to help others when they need help. I am not looking for glory or reward, but to show others that You live in me and my kindness is a sign of Your love. May it be so.

TODAY LOVE WINS: The Kingdom of Heaven is both here and far away. It is experienced both in life and in death. The way the Kingdom of Heaven is seen on earth is by taking steps to care for the planet. How might you take care of the Earth and reveal God’s Kingdom of love, knowing that in doing so, love wins.

Scripture: I Corinthians 13:8 Love never fails.

Morning Prayer: God, I am thankful for this short reminder that love has never, can never, and will never fail. Knowing that Your love is constant and unchanging, sufficient to meet my every need and hold me through all circumstances helps me to believe that I can also love in this way. My prayer is that today I might grow in my understanding of such amazing love, and have my eyes opened to see the many ways in which I can offer unfailing love to the world around me. May it be so.

[01/14/19]   Due to the road conditions, the Crossroads office is closed on Monday, January 14th and all activities are canceled. Stay warm and safe!

TODAY LOVE WINS: The Kingdom of Heaven is both here and far away. It is experienced both in life and in death. The way the Kingdom of Heaven is seen on earth is in our words of affirmation and encouragement to someone who is feeling down and out. Who might you affirm and encourage today and in doing so reveal the power of God’s love in the Kingdom of Heaven right when someone needs it the most?

Scripture: Matthew 6:33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

Morning Prayer: God, having grown up with the idea that heaven is a destination, it is incredible to me that the Kingdom of Heaven is so much more. Day in and day out I have the opportunity for Kingdom living. When I act and speak in ways that are pleasing to You, I feel like I am in sync with You. When I am in sync with You I realize that I do have everything I need. When we are in sync I can look at everyone I encounter as Your beloved child, just as I am. And by reaching out to others in love I remain in sync. It is not always easy; it is not always my first inclination to love someone different from myself. Help me to look beyond our differences, to look with eyes of love. May it be so.

TODAY LOVE WINS: The Kingdom of Heaven is both here and far away. It is experienced both in life and in death. The way the Kingdom of Heaven is seen on earth is when we pray for an ill or troubled friend. Who do you need to pray for today? In your prayer for another, the Kingdom of Heaven is as at hand showing how love wins.

Scripture: Matthew 6:9-10 Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.

Morning Prayer: God, the scripture today is so well known as your teaching on prayer that it is easy to just skip over the words. I can say the words by memory and at the same time not even pay attention to what I am praying for. Your Kingdom of love coming soon and Your will be doing on earth as it is in heaven is no easy prayer. When I look around and see the kingdoms of power and privilege ruling and controlling, then I realize how important this prayer really is. We need Your Kingdom of love to come soon. We need a Kingdom where Your will for love and justice on earth breaks down the divides we have created. So today, help me take my part in helping Your Kingdom of love and welcome for all people to be seen and experienced today. For when Your Kingdom of love reigns supreme, we all win. May it be so.

crossroadsnova.org Crossroads United Methodist Church, based in Ashburn, VA, has the desire for everyone – whether they enter our doors or not – would discover the sacredness of their own story, celebrate their spirituality, and fully enjoy an everyday life with God.

LOVE WINS: Love is a verb. By showing loving acts we demonstrate the power of God’s love to change us and others. Today help love win by seeing God’s divine love inside everyone. Seeing the essence of God’s love in others has the power to help us see that we are all one human race. When that happens, love wins; when love wins we all win.

Scripture: Psalm 86:15 But you, O God, are both tender and kind, not easily angered, immense in love, and you never, never quit.

Morning Prayer: God, as the first week of the new year comes to a close the news is still the same as before. There are so many divisions, angry words spoken, and disparities all over the world. Often I feel paralyzed not knowing how I can make a difference. Maybe the answer to my question is as simple and profound as serving others. Perhaps the greatest and only change I can bring into the world is me. Help me to have eyes peeled for moments of serving. May my acts of serving break through stereotypes and divisions in ways that show the power of love. May Your love in and through me win yet again today. May it be so.
