The “Piano Concerto No. 2 in F minor, Op. 21” is a piano concerto composed by Frédéric Chopin in 1829.

The composer wrote this piece of indescribable beauty before he finished his formal education, at around 20 years of age.

It was performed by him as a soloist on March 17th, 1830 in Warsaw, Poland.

It was the second of his piano concertos to be published even though it was the first one he ever wrote.

The work contains the three movements typical of instrumental concertos of the period: Maestoso, Larghetto and Allegro Vivace.

Hawaii. Nineteenth century. Portuguese immigrants brought a small stringed instrument from Madeira called “machete” that had a double bulged body made of wood with a small rib and four strings.

The ukelele is a Hawaiian adaptation of the Portuguese machete. It gained popularity in the United States in the twentieth century and spread internationally.

The tone and volume of the ukelele vary with size and construction. They commonly come in four sizes: soprano, concert, tenor, and baritone.

If you have ever wanted to learn to play the ukelele, please call or text us for a free trial lesson.

Once a student has grasped the basics of playing an instrument, it becomes more enjoyable.

This is where the fun part starts, because every song they learn is a personal achievement.

In our studio, we encourage their skills and often have fun by listening to them and even playing and singing along with their songs.

With time and dedication they will have a great time playing their instrument.

A beautiful princess is imprisoned by a powerful ruler. A brave prince with a goofy sidekick takes on an impossible quest. A wicked queen uses her magic to lure the hero into evil. And every now and then, someone breaks into song.

“The Magic Flute” (in German: “Die Zauberflöte”) is an opera in two acts by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart to a German libretto by Emanuel Schikaneder.

The work is in the form of a Singspiel, a form of German-language music drama popular during the time it was written that included both singing and spoken dialogue.

The opera was premiered on September 30th, 1791 at Schikaneder’s theatre in Vienna.

Tyler was just 5 years old when he started his studies with us. Now he’s 12 and the progress he has made is incredible.

He is very disciplined and respectful to others, but at the same time he loves to tell stories and jokes.

We are very proud of him.

The fifteenth century.

A plucked string instrument that looked like a guitar appeared in Spain. It was called a vihuela, and consisted of four double-strings (paired courses), indicating that the instrument had two strings on each course, along the full length of the neck, for eight strings in total.

A five double-string version appeared around the year 1600, with a six single-string version becoming popular in Europe in the 1800s.

This six single-stringed version of the vihuela is the closest ancestor to today’s guitar.

With our three year old students we invest time and effort to teach them how to read music before they learn how to read words.

And when that happens music turns into this special thing that stays with them forever.

We engage their imaginations by playing with Beethoven Bear and Mozart Mouse while they are learning the instrument.

To watch how that magic happens, please call or text us to arrange for a free trial lesson and assessment for your child.

"Bohemian Rhapsody" is a song by the British rock band Queen.

It was written by Freddie Mercury for the album ”A Night at the Opera”, released in 1975.

The song is a six-minute suite, consisting of several sections: an intro, a ballad segment, an operatic passage, a hard rock part and a reflective coda. Unusual for a popular or rock song, it doesn’t have a chorus.

The song is a more accessible take on the 1970s progressive rock genre.

Raaga has been studying with us since 2015.

We get inspired by her discipline, her technique and the way she practices to get better.

The tiara she was using back then shows the princess she will always be. But don’t be confused, she’s the kind of princess that works hard to get what she wants.

Europe, the Paleolithic era. Transverse flutes were made out of animal bones.

Much later, in the sixteenth century during the Renaissance, there first emerged a prototype of the flute that we know today to be used in the modern orchestra.

The term "flute" was originally applied both to pipe instruments held sideways and pipe instruments held vertically.

The vertically held recorder was also called a "flute." But around the middle of the eighteenth century (the era of Baroque music), the word "flute" was commonly used to describe the recorder.

To distinguish the transverse flute from the recorder, it was referred to in Italian as the ”flauto traverso”, in German as the ”Querflöte”, and in French as the ”flûte traversière”-all of which mean "sideways held flute.”

If you have ever wanted to try the flute, please call or text us to arrange a Free trial lesson and assessment.

Many studies have proven that learning and understanding musical language can benefit your child’s mental development. Here are three proven benefits:

1. Your child will likely to achieve better grades in high school.

2. Musical training physically develops the left side of your child’s brain that is involved with processing language and reasoning.

3. Children who learn music also learn to be disciplined in their training because that is the key to success.

No matter your child’s age, learning to read music and play an instrument can be challenging. But, by meeting those challenges, and experiencing the progress that comes from practice and expert guidance, they learn lessons that will last them a lifetime.

Yes, everyone can learn music.
We use our own methodology to teach students as young as three. For older students, we primarily use the Royal Conservatory Curriculum.
But, every student is unique, and we understand that.

So, teachers often modify their teaching styles and lesson plans to best reach and encourage each student.

"Ode to Joy” is an ode written in 1785 by the German poet, playwright, and historian Friedrich Schiller.

Today "Ode to Joy" is best known for its use by Ludwig van Beethoven in the final (fourth) movement of his Ninth Symphony, completed in 1824.

Beethoven's text is not based entirely on Schiller's poem, and introduces a few new sections. His tune (but not Schiller's words) was adopted as the "Anthem of Europe" by the Council of Europe in 1972 and subsequently by the European Union.

This is Lucas.

He started with us when he was four, and now he’s a young rocker who sits at the piano to play “Hey Jude” because he loves The Beatles. Or “Hedwig’s Theme” because he makes magic when he plays. Also, because he’s everyting but a muggle as you can see in this super cool pic!

The year was 1700. Bartolomeo Cristofori (an Italian maker of instruments) was unsatisfied by the lack of control that musicians had over the volume level of the harpsichord.

So he decided to switch out the plucking mechanism with a hammer to create the modern piano.

The instrument was actually first named "clavicembalo col piano e forte" (literally, a harpsichord that can play soft and loud noises). This was shortened to the now common name, "piano.”

Stay tuned for more interesting facts about the instruments we teach in our Conservatory.
