[01/16/20]   Greetings Lion Nation,

This year, Cedar Lane’s 5th grade scholars have been given the opportunity to audition for Loudoun County Public School’s 2020 All-County Chorus. All-County Chorus is a group of the county’s top fifth grade singers whom, each year, get a chance to work with a nationally-acclaimed guest conductor and perform a public concert in the spring. Since this honored group of singers consists of 175 students throughout the county, Cedar Lane has been given an allotment of only FOUR of our most talented and responsible 5th graders to represent our school in this event.

Mr. Bailey and Mrs. Gines held the initial auditions back in December, and call-back auditions were held last week. All who tried out were not only brave and confident singers, but also fantastic supporters of their peers. The decision for them was one of great difficulty, but it was great to see such talent among our young singers. Please give a round of applause and congratulations to the following students for being selected to represent Cedar Lane in our 2020 All-County Chorus.

1. From Mrs. Lowe’s class… Aashmita Tariyal
2. From Miss Petchenick’s class… Harini Kumar
3. From Mrs. Ruminski’s class… Jaja Tshishimbi
4. From Mrs. Turnquist’s class… Katie Lynch

Good Tuesday Morning Lion Nation and Happy New Year!

While schools in LCPS are closed today, I wanted to share this important information from the Department of Pupil Services with our school community. Please see the message below along with the Press Releases in both English & Spanish as well as the attached flyer.

This Saturday, January 11, the Department of Pupil Services will host the 3rd annual Mental Health and Wellness Conference from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm at Independence High School. The Conference will feature over 20 presenters, 28 venders in the resource fair, and a screening of the movie LIKE. LIKE provides an overview of the impact social media is having on students and families in the “quest for LIKES”. In addition, Dr. Edward Spector, a leading psychologist, who works with families to support healthy technology use, will also contribute to the discussion and time is provided for a Q&A with him after the screening.

More information is available at www.navigatethepath.com.

Loudoun County Public Schools (LPCS) Department of Pupil Services will host its third annual Mental Health and Wellness Conference on Saturday, January 11, at Independence High School from 8:00 am – 1:00 pm. The conference is free and will provide parents and students the chance to gain information and better understand mental health topics, such as anxiety, stress, resilience, the impact of technology, current LCPS programs and services, and much more. There will also be a screening of the independent film LIKE, followed by a presentation by Dr. Edward Spector (a psychologist who specializes in compulsive technology use) who will offer practical ideas on how to help students and parents limit the amount of time and the impact of technology on daily lives, interpersonal relationships, communication and more. Three breakout sessions with over 20 presenters will highlight the conference and over 25 resource venders will be available to share information with participants. To register, click HERE, or visit www.navigatethepath.com. Walk-in registration is also welcome.

It is with great appreciation we thank Elise Hutchison, Mario Almonte, and TEAM Belmont for serving our Cedar Lane School community! So many of our families enjoyed a delicious holiday meal thanks to the kind outreach of the Belmont Country Club membership! I am thankful for this continued partnership! Looking forward to an amazing 2020 and very thankful for all the great support received in 2019! It is truly a great day to be a Cedar Lane Lion!

Thank you to everyone who came out to enjoy our Holiday Sing-Along at the Lane this morning! I am blessed to work with such amazing folks, serve such a great community, and support a fantastic group of scholars! Happy Holidays Lion Nation, thank you for allowing me to join you on this journey! May you all enjoy great peace, joy, and love this Holiday Season!

What an amazing start to our day here at the Lane! We loved having the Tri-M group from SBHS perform for us as our students and staff entered the building and prepared to start their day! No better way to start the day than to be greeted by talented and enthusiastic musicians, and I know our students (and staff) truly were inspired to go out and make today great! Thank you Mr. Keller, Mr. Flynn, and SBHS staff! It is a great day to be a Cedar Lane Lion!

[12/16/19]   Good Monday afternoon Lion Nation,

After careful consideration, we will be postponing our Enhancing Engagement at Cedar Lane event ([email protected]) which was originally scheduled for this evening (12/16) at 6:30, and once we have the new date selected, we will get it communicated out to all.
We also will be looking at choosing a new date for our Hour of Code event which was scheduled for today (12/16).
Wishing all of our families a joyful and safe afternoon and evening,
With Lion Pride,
Bob Marple

JOIN THE PTA AND WIN! Wouldn’t it be FABULOUS if we could get each grade level to have at least 50% of their families join?

Here are the current numbers:

5th grade = 19%
Kindergarten = 19%
1st grade = 18%
4th grade = 17%
3rd grade = 14%

The grade level with the highest percentage of families who have joined the PTA will win a pancake breakfast.

Friendly reminder, you need to join annually!! In other words, if you joined in previous school years, you need to re-join for the 2019-2020 school year.

The easiest way to check and see if you've joined this year, is to login to PTBoard, https://cles.ptboard.com, and select Student Directory (on the left-hand side). If you get a message saying you do not have permission to view the student directory then you need to complete the membership form for this school year. Or you can contact [email protected] and I'd be happy to check for you.

We can do this Cedar Lane! I’m always so proud of the support and spirit from the Cedar Lane community!!!

Thank you and have a fabulous evening!
Your PTA Executive Board
