Research / LCPS Annual Parent Survey 2019-20

Good Friday Morning Lion Nation! We would love to hear from you!

Every year, LCPS families, teachers, and students in grades 3-12 take the LCPS Annual Stakeholder Surveys to share feedback about their schools. We use the results to assess the learning climate in our buildings and make plans for the following year. The Annual Parent and Family Survey is now open. We want to hear from everyone so that we can make the best decisions for ALL our students! At Cedar Lane, we are very committed to creating a partnership with our families and your input and feedback is truly very important to our TEAM!

The parent/family survey will only take a few minutes of your time. To respond, go to https://www.lcps.org/Page/226918

You will be asked to fill out a survey for each grade level in which you have a child enrolled (elementary, middle, high, or program).

Thank you for sharing your opinion with us, and as always, thank you for sharing your wonderful young people with our school TEAM! It continues to be a blessing to serve the Cedar Lane School Community!

We had an amazing Guest Reader today as we celebrate Black History Month here at Cedar Lane! Our students and many staff members were blessed to have Ms. Darnell Wise Lightbourn join us and share her passion for education, reading, children, and her journey!! She is pictured here reading to Mrs. Lowe's class during Library, as she read The Undefeated by Kwame Alexander and Kadir Nelson! Such a powerful book, I suggest you check it out!! It is an award winning book and to have Ms. Darnell read it to our students was both moving and inspiring!!
Ms. Darnell is a retired administrator in LCPS and it was so wonderful for her to come back to be with us here today at the Lane!
It is a great day to be a Cedar Lane Lion!

Good Morning Lion Nation,

I want to thank you, our school community, for the amazing and generous support you have given to our Pennies for Patients program. Tomorrow will be the last day to bring in your spare change to support this effort. I am already so impressed that we (you) have brought in over $2,276 to support Pennies for Patients, which goes directly to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society!

Thank you for your incredible generosity and support! You are the "I" in Kind!

[02/02/20]   Good Sunday evening Lion Nation,
I hope everyone has enjoyed a wonderful weekend! I wanted to share with our families and staff that tomorrow afternoon at 2:10 PM we will celebrate the great work of our student body with our PBIS House Parade. At the end of each quarter, we tabulate the number of PBIS "House Points" and celebrate the House that has earned the most "House Points" for that quarter. This quarter, the DAYA House is the winner! Congratulations to all of our students and staff who are members of the DAYA House. Tomorrow we encourage all students to wear the color blue as we as a school family celebrate our DAYA's!
Have a great evening, enjoy the Super Bowl, and I look forward to seeing our students tomorrow morning!
With Lion Pride,
Bob Marple

Good Friday afternoon Lion Nation!

In our first week of collecting donations for Pennies for Patients, you have contributed $1212.48 ! What an amazing and generous community in which we live!
I am very proud to be a part of this fantastic school community, one where Kindness does truly matter!
I look forward to seeing many of you this evening at our Family Reading Night!

Our First Graders had such a great visit today from Mr. Ethan Berlin, the author of The Hugely - Wugely Spider! Thank you so much to Mrs. Smith, our amazing Librarian for making this visit happen! His book is great, very cute, and it has such a great message! It was a perfect fit for Kindness Week!!

Pennies for Patients 2020

Good Morning Lion Nation,

In an effort to promote our support of the Pennies for Patients program which benefits the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and to connect our efforts to Kindness Week, I have created a short video which outlines this fundraiser while de-emphasizing the prizes for collecting certain amounts of money. We have shared with students that this effort is to support those impacted by blood cancer and not a competition to earn prizes, as their will be no individual prizes awarded. We are not promoting the prize component from this fundraiser, but rather just asking our students to contribute some change to support this worthy cause. As some of you may be aware, we did loose a former Cedar Lane Lion this past year, and I have talked with the Whitten family and they very much support this effort.

The students will be bringing a little box home with them today, we encourage them to leave this box at home and over the next several weeks, use this box to collect their loose change. Each Thursday we will remind students to bring in their loose change, if they collected any, in a Ziploc bag and give it directly to their classroom teacher on Friday morning. This effort will run beginning today through Feb. 14th.

Thank you all in advance for your support of this endeavor. I am going to continue to emphasize to our students on the AM News Show that we are hoping all students can contribute a small amount, and together, with everyone giving a small amount, it will really add up to a sizeable amount.

Mark your calendars now for an upcoming Cedar Lane Spirit Night at Stone Bridge High School as we cheer on the SBHS Boys Basketball Team and Coach Hamlett on Feb. 13th! Be on the lookout for a flyer coming your way soon!

With Great Lion Pride and Appreciation for our Continued Partnership,
Bob Marple

Cedar Lane Kindness Celebration

Good Friday Morning Lion Nation,

I am happy to report that all is well this morning here at the Lane, our power is on, our staff is excited to be working with our students, and our students certainly came in with great energy and joy! It is a great day to be a Cedar Lane Lion!

It is with great enthusiasm I share with you that we will be celebrating Kindness Week and engaging in the Great Kindness Challenge beginning on Monday, Jan. 27th!

I have attached a joyful video from a few years ago which promotes the week and focuses on our fun-filled Friday event, Bermuda Day!

I look forward to all that next week represents, as we spotlight all of the great aspects of our culture and work to inspire all members of our school community to embrace kindness, inclusive practices, and joy!

I hope your Friday is filled with joy, and I thank you for sharing you amazing young people with our TEAM!

With Lion Pride,
Bob Marple

The students and staff at Cedar Lane celebrate a week-long Kindness Challenge.

[01/23/20]   Good afternoon Lion Nation,

I am very pleased to share with you that power has been restored here at Cedar Lane as of 11:40 AM. Our student body and staff has handled the issue today (losing power beginning at 9:56 AM) so very well, I could not be more proud! Our Lions worked together, remained positive, and focused on the important work at hand! I am very proud of our staff as they engaged our students in looking at this as an adventure and really promoted a positive classroom environment and outlook!

While I will certainly plan on providing accolades to our students and staff at the end of the day over the announcements, please share with your student(s) just how proud we are of their ability to positively handle our adventure today!

We made adjustments to the lunch schedule as we were uncertain as to when power would be restored, as it was important to us that our students be fed a warm meal (for those that eat a school prepared lunch). After school activities, such as CASA, YMCA and Math Olympiad will continue as scheduled.

Thank you all for sending to our TEAM your wonderful young people! I truly consider it a blessing to serve this community!

With great Lion Pride,
Bob Marple

Good Tuesday afternoon Lion Nation,
