#WomensHistoryMonth will soon come to a close, and so we must take all of the inspiration we’ve shared this month and carry it throughout the year. Let’s take it from the diverse and inspiring women who paved the path before us, and continue to build each other up and forge new beginnings for women and men around the world.
[03/29/19] What year did Strayer University appoint its first female president? #WomensHistoryMonth
In honor of #WomensHistoryMonth, we’re featuring another inspiring Strayer woman of the past – Catherine Ruth Touhey Ashe. Catherine attended Strayer Business College for two years in the 1940s, and spoke fondly of her college days. After graduation and throughout her life, Catherine worked for various financial institutions in downtown Baltimore, while running a household and raising three daughters. Catherine, an independent woman ahead of her time, managed her own bank account and credit card, and was known as a wonderful cook, a passionate dancer, and meticulous dresser. Her perceptive ability to problem-solve was a trait family members treasured most. She spread the wisdom of - "not all that glitters is gold" - underscoring the fact that everyone has their own story, and no matter what you think someone else has, always appreciate what you have now. Catherine viewed the world with grace, dignity, temperance, and patience – an esteemed perspective we can all strive to incorporate.
To all Strayer students—you can still help someone start a degree program. New students are eligible for a $250 scholarship when referred by a Strayer student. Click here to get your custom referral link to share with someone who’s looking to start a degree program.

Continuing our inspiring Strayer alumni stories this #WomensHistoryMonth - meet Teaa, a dedicated HR professional for the City of Douglasville, GA. She earned three degrees from Strayer University – an Associate in Arts (Cum Laude), a Bachelor's (Cum Laude), and a Master's (Summa Cum Laude), all in Business Administration. One of her key work accomplishments includes developing a new employee wellness program to incorporate education, activities, and incentives. This allowed her workplace to earn the Atlanta Business Chronicle's Healthiest Employer award two years in a row. “My Strayer education helped me get where I am today,” Teaa said. “It wasn’t always easy; when I went back to school I was a single mother and my son was seven years old. I’d study at night and on the weekends. I had to balance time with my son, because I am a mother first. For seven years, I was multi-tasking to the best of my ability. I know it was worth it, though, because of where I am now.”

Join us for a special lecture with Strayer University as Coach share his strategies of leading high-performance teams.
This Women’s History Month, we’re honoring the inspiring stories of Strayer University women - past and present. Olive Antoinette Svec Duvall is one of those inspiring Strayer women. She forged ahead of her time and attended Strayer Business College in 1913 at age 15 – 7 years before a woman's right to vote was recognized in the United States. Olive earned a degree in shorthand, then went on to work at a general food supply store in Maryland. Olive never seemed to stop learning. She began creating art when she was 60 years old - selling her paintings and drawings at art shows. Olive’s unquenchable desire to learn and warm demeanor inspired everyone around her.
Stay present today. Set yourself up for an amazing tomorrow. #WomensHistoryMonth #MotivationMonday
