Gurdon Public Schools

We want to thank Nicole McGough and Patterson Credit Union for conducting a Financial Reality Fair with our 11th grade students yesterday. The fair provided financial education to participants. Each student chose an occupation and was given an income based on their chosen occupation. The students were challenged to manage a budget as they moved between merchant booths. They purchased monthly necessities including rent, car payments, insurance, groceries, student loans, and lifestyle preferences. The students learned so much and had a great time! We would also like to thank all the community members for volunteering for the event!

We had a fun day yesterday with this financial education project in Gurdon!

This week we got to take some Goza Greats out to celebrate! These kids worked hard on their BizKids Entrepreneurial contest with us this semester, creating their own businesses and presenting them to a local “Shark Tank” back in February. Their teacher, the fantastic Jequetta Berry, allowed each class to choose their celebratory party. One group had Chik Fil A at HSU, another got ice cream and pizza from Baskin Robbins/Little Caesar’s, and the third had lunch and played games at The Cue. They had a blast, we loved treating them, and they were the best behaved kids we could have asked for! Can’t wait to do this again next year!

Today we had a surprise guest- Dolly Parton! She and Elaine Kneebone, a member of Arkadelphia’s Sunrise Rotary, came to accept our sponsorship money for Mom Prom! This event will be held Saturday, May 4, and will raise money for the Imagination Library of Clark County!

Thank you so much to the Clark County offices for hosting our final food drive of this school year! Between the courthouse, prosecutor’s office, sheriff’s department, coroner, and road department they collected 8,762 items in addition to monetary donations. You guys are the best!

Happy Hoodies performing their intro skit.

Hydroplies, our winners, fielding questions from the judges.

The Crush Bakery group pitching a portion of their business model.

Students from the Kustom Kases group, explaining to the judges how they will use their profits to benefit the community.

Today your credit union hosted it’s first “Shark Tank” for some young entrepreneurs! We partnered with Ms. Jequetta Berry’s 7th grade Career Development classes. Her students created 5 different business plans and presented them to a panel of local judges this morning. To participate in this competition the students had to identify a need, survey others to gauge interest, research cost, create a marketing plan, develop an app, and present to the judges. These kids did a fantastic job and we are excited about each plan developed. An added perk- EVERY group incorporated a plan to use a portion of their profits to do good in the community! Our winner was 5th period with the “Hydroplies” business. They will go on to compete against 15 other entries from Oklahoma and Texas in the BizKids Entrepreneur Competition hosted by the Cornerstone Credit Union League.

More pictures and videos to come- but so far our young entrepreneurs are doing a fantastic job presenting to our “sharks” this morning! Special thanks to Ms. Berry for partnering with us on this project!

Students from Ms. Jequetta Berry’s classes are presenting business plans to our local “Sharks” as part of the Biz Kids competition in conjunction with Patterson Federal Credit Union.

Just a few pictures from today’s food delivery. It’s so fantastic to see a local business helping out these children! And wonderful to get to see these Alumacraft guys interact with the students! Thank you, thank you, thank you, Alumacraft! You guys are awesome!

Another fantastic food drive in the books! The men and women of Alumacraft donated over 1100 pounds of food for Arkadelphia Public Schools and drove a boat around delivering it this morning. Thank you, Alumacraft!

So proud of these Peake kids for bringing in so much food to restock their pantry! We were happy to provide pizzas for the winning classes and lunch for the counselors for the day!

The Patterson crew enjoyed their 1st annual Closed For Good day! While the credit union was closed for the holiday, the crew participated in team building & staff development activities, had lunch together and then headed to the DeSoto Bluff Trail to give back by cleaning up a little. It was a fun day!!!

The First Responder’s Appreciation Dinner was a huge success last night! We had fantastic speakers, presentations, and donations for door prizes. The dinner was catered by Chicken Express and they served a terrific meal. We are so honored to partner with the Arkadelphia Lions Club to put this event on for all of our Clark County First Responders. They deserve this and so much more for all that they do in our community.
