Happy #schoollunchheroday to our two awesome lunch ladies, Julie and Jan! The students miss their wonderful lunches. As you can tell in the picture, the lunch ladies miss their students too.

Here is the Blenker family enjoying their Paschal Meal last week with that delicious looking lamb cake.

Here is the Winkels family enjoying their Paschal Meal. Dominick (8th grade), Chloe (5th grade) and Owen (2nd grade).

Holy Family School has a tradition of hosting a Paschal Meal for students, school staff, parish staff, and 5th & 6th grade parents. We had a couple Holy Family students make a lamb cake for Easter. The lamb cakes are traditionally shared during the Paschal Meal. Since we aren’t together physically, they decided to share their awesome lamb cakes with you. These students did an awesome job with their lamb cakes. #tradition

Holy Family School recently completed a project called "Chemo Treatment Bags" in which students brought in household items for cancer patients. This was in conjunction with the Albany Southsiders 4H Club. Here are some of the pictures of the items that were donated. Holy Family students also donated $210 for the cause.

If you know someone battling cancer in our community, please reach out to the Southsiders 4H Club or contact Tammy Carlson Frericks. In these unknown times, it's great to know we can still make a difference and help families in need.

Holy Family School thanks community for help raising $8,065 through Catholic Schools Raffle program

The students, parents, teachers and staff of Holy Family School extend a message of gratitude to the Albany community for helping them achieve fundraising success through the 2020 Catholic Schools Raffle program. The school was able to raise $8,065 through the program in ticket sales and donations.

From January 17 to March 1, students at Holy Family sold raffle tickets at $5 each to raise funds for their school. Costs to run the raffle are provided by sole sponsor Catholic United Financial so every dollar raised by ticket sales stays with this school. The fundraiser came to an official close on March 12 with the prize drawing ceremony during which winners of $40,000 in prizes, from gift cards and vacations to a brand new Buick Encore SUV, were announced by guest emcees Super Bowl Champion Matt Birk and Miss Minnesota 2019 Kathryn Kueppers.

When Holy Family's total is added together with the other 88 participating schools in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota, the 2020 Catholic Schools Raffle raised more than $1.3 million -- a new annual record for the program -- and a cumulative total of $9.8 million since the program began in 2009.

"All the credit goes to students, families and parish and school staff, and the wonderful communities that support them," said Harald Borrmann, president of Catholic United Financial. "It is an honor for us to show our unconditional support of Catholic education through this program year after year."

Based in St. Paul, Minn., raffle sponsor Catholic United Financial provides all the prizes and promotion materials for the Raffle resulting in 100 percent profit for the schools.

Yesterday we had two guests from the St. John’s Abbey. Fr Wilfred Theisen and Brother Mark Kelly. Fr Wilfred was a science teacher at SJU for over 50 years and he donated bird pictures to Holy Family. The 5th and 6th graders researched the birds and colored the pictures to get an accurate representation of the bird. They learned that our great Creator did not just create a bird, a tree, a flower and a mushroom. There are 11,126 species of birds, 120,000 species of mushrooms, 18,500 species of butterflies. Br. Mark Kelly was in charge of the grounds at St Johns for almost 60 years. He over saw the mowing, snow removal, planting of trees... and all of the beautiful campus.

Our Pastor, Fr Edward invited HFS staff and students to a Lenten Prayer Service this past Friday.

The Church has the practice of collecting palms and burning them to make the ashes for Ash Wednesday. Fr. Edward encouraged our students to bring in palms they had in the house from Lent last year to add to the collection.

During the prayer service, Fr. Edward shared a few words about the meaning of placing ashes on our foreheads. Then students & staff placed the palms in the grill, the fire was lit and we ended this symbolic prayer service with praying an Our Father, Hail Mary, & Glory Be.

A beautiful way to prepare our hearts for this coming Lenten season!

Our 2nd graders had a fun experience with the Sauk River Watershed Education District sharing a presentation on animal wildlife this week.

Holy Family School will be hosting an open house for grades 5 & 6 Tuesday, February 18th at 6:30pm. We are also currently accepting registrations for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year. If you have any questions feel free to call the school office.

Today we celebrated 100 days of school! Mrs. Young’s class celebrated with a surprise appearance from Zero the Hero. He arrived with donuts for the whole class. It was a fun day celebrating!

Our Catholic Schools Week celebration last week was tons of fun! It started with a kickoff mass at Seven Dolors on Sunday followed by some lucky students getting to create a radio ad on KASM Radio 1150AM and ended with the school dance. A special thank you to our special guests Neal Anderson, Father Aaron Nett and the Slewfoot Family Band. Father Aaron and Neal discussed vocations with the students and helped celebrate mass. The Slewfoot Family Band put on a concert for the students. It was a great week at Holy Family School!

Once again this year we are participating in the Catholic Schools Raffle. It is sponsored by Catholic United Financial and Dean Demarais is our local sales rep. If you are interested in a raffle ticket, please contact a Holy Family School family. This is a great fundraiser for us as all the proceeds stay with the school! #fundraiser
