University of Akron Press

We are a small university press based in Akron, Ohio, at The University of Akron We are a small university press based in Akron, Ohio, at The University of Akron.

We have been publishing books since 1988. We have a wide range of titles—ranging from local topics and memoirs to poetry (including our annual Akron Poetry Prize) and cookbooks and everything in between. Our page provides the latest updates on new releases, events, and general news.

Mission: The University of Akron Press seeks manuscripts of interest to our readers. For our readers in and of Northeast Ohio, we are always looking for new books on our history and culture. We've published books on our people and neighborhoods, our institutions, our sports teams, our parks, and through our cookbooks, on our food. For readers all over the world, we publish peer-reviewed books and collections on the history and culture of Akron and Ohio. In our Bliss Institute series, we publish scholarship on applied politics. With the Drs. Nicholas and Dorothy Cummings Center for the History of Psychology, we publish books and textbooks on the history of psychology. The Akron Series in Poetry brings forth at least two new books of poetry every year, mainly through our prestigious and long-running Akron Poetry Prize. We also publish scholarship on poetics. We are not considering poetry anthologies at this time. The University of Akron Press is a member of the Association of University Presses. We maintain high standards through peer review. Each of our books are carefully made with individualized attention to every aspect of production, from copyediting to page and cover design. We do not typeset books with templates or recycle generic cover designs. Our books are reasonably priced, distributed worldwide, and also available in digital formats.

"I began writing THE SOFT PATH when I knew I’d be leaving Poughkeepsie, but before I’d settled anywhere else, and so in that sense it’s almost a record of placelessness, of being 'in between,' as the book has it."

Don't miss JA Tyler talking with Joshua Harmon about his third collection of poetry THE SOFT PATH, out now from University of Akron Press!

If you'd like to learn more about how #Goodyear made America great, check out our latest book release! (link in comments)

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company visually chronicles the rich and fascinating history of Goodyear, highlighting the products that helped make Goodyear a household name and Akron the “Rubber Capital of the World”: tires that shod winning race cars in first Indy 500s; blimps that advertised the Goodyear brand; figure balloons that graced the Macy’s parades; conveyors used to build the Shasta and Grand Coulee dams; and balloons and airplane components that were critical assets in both world wars.
