When Marla had her total knee arthroplasty in December, she didn’t think she would be done with Physical Therapy in a mere 8 weeks. Many patients undergoing this type of surgery are in therapy for at least 12 weeks.

But, thanks to Brad Orr and his team at Avera Physical Therapy, Marla’s recovery went quickly and was memorable. Marla presented Brad and his team with a special thank you card---a large poster board filled with treats and kind words. It was truly a unique thank you!

Marla knew she was in the right place from the minute she came in as a post-operative patient. Brad designed a program with her goals in mind. The program he designed included exercises for upper body and core strengthening—not just her knee. She credits this program to a speedy recovery from the knee replacement.

Marla said that the team always made her feel welcome and found other ways to personalize her visits as well.

“They always greeted me by my name and showed genuine interest in me,” she said, while also noting that the encouraging atmosphere played a huge role in her recovery. “The team at Avera Aberdeen PT really helped lift my spirits, and I looked forward to coming in because of the culture they have created."

Avera Aberdeen Physical Therapy is one of two Avera locations in Aberdeen that offers outpatient physical therapy. If your doctor prescribes therapy after surgery, an injury, or for conservative treatment, chances are you may meet Brad and his team.

The unique thank you that Marla made for them perfectly sums up the excellent care provided by Avera Physical Therapy! We're happy we could help, Marla!

Avera Medical Minute: Heart attack emergency care during the pandemic

Had Gleeann collapsed anywhere other than inside the clinic, she may not have survived. Even during a pandemic, Dr. Gundewar believes it's important to seek help as soon as you have symptoms.

"In many ways this is a second life for her so I think it's absolutely fitting that she wants to grow beautiful flowers in a garden so I'm very, very pleased," said Dr. Gundewar.
