Today, Carnegie Mellon Qatar offers undergraduate programs in biological sciences, business administration, computational biology, computer science, and information systems. Nearly 400 students from 38 countries call Carnegie Mellon Qatar home. Graduates from CMU-Q are making a deep impact in Qatar and around the world. A startup that began as a class project raised $2.5 million in a Series A funding round. Meddy is a physician booking platform created by alums Haris Aghadi and Abdulla AlKhenji. They launched Meddy in Doha in 2016, and have since expanded within the GCC. Congratulations Tartans! #CMUAlums #CMUQ

During a lecture at CMU-Q, His Excellency Sheikh Abdulla Bin Saoud Al-Thani discussed Qatar’s strategy to promote the growth of financial technology (fintech) in the local banking sector. Al-Thani is the governor of Qatar Central Bank (QCB) and an expert in Qatar’s financial industry.

Al-Thani noted the forces that are reshaping the traditional model of banking, including globalization, technology, and the shifting preferences of customers.

CMU-Q welcomed more than 100 new students at the freshman orientation for the Class of 2023. The four-day experience includes activities to introduce new students to the campus, and to one another.

This year’s orientation theme is ‘Envision Endless Opportunities,’ which encourages the freshman students to think big and outside the box, to stretch and try new things and to act on their curiosity and ideas.

Orientation is organized by a team of current CMU-Q students and includes an intensive introduction to the resources, expectations, and academic areas at CMU-Q.
