Leyte Gulf Travel and Tours

SERVICES OFFERED:* Tour Packages (domestic and international)* Ticketing for both domestic and international* Hotel Reservations Nationwide* Transportation rental* Services of Tour Guides and Coordinators* Airport/Hotel Transfers

Leyte Gulf Travel and Tours (LGTT) was borne primarily out of the need to promote travel and leisure tours to yet untapped and undeveloped tourist destinations in Eastern Visayas (Region 8) - comprising the provinces of Samar, Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte and Biliran; and, secondly, to provide linkage as well to other established leisure and travel agencies both
domestic and international.

Spun off as a distinct travel agency separate from that of sister company Family Tours Educational
Program (FTEP) - which caters more to domestic educational tours - Leyte Gulf Travel and Tours also
handles airline ticketing services as well as other travel arrangements for both domestic and international tourists. LGTT is a duly-authorized agent of Philippine Airlines (PAL), the nation's flag carrier.

Working closely with the Regional Department of Tourism Office and the Tourism
Departments of various Local Government Units in Region 8, LGTT has established pioneering inroads towards further development and promotion of the regional tourism thrust in this part of the country.

Of sunsets, waning crescent moons and the Milky Way...

For this album, allow me to quote Rachel Carson from her, "Help Your Child to Wonder," November 1956:

“For most of us, knowledge of our world comes largely through sight, yet we look about with such unseeing eyes that we are partially blind. One way to open your eyes to unnoticed beauty is to ask yourself, "What if I had never seen this before? What if I knew I would never see it again?"

“I remember a summer night when such a thought came to me strongly. It was a clear night without a moon. With a friend, I went out on a flat headland that is almost a tiny island, being all but surrounded by the waters of the bay. There the horizons are remote and distant rims on the edge of space. We lay and looked up at the sky and the millions of stars that blazed in darkness.... I have never seen them more beautiful: the misty river of the Milky Way flowing across the sky, the patterns of the constellations standing out bright and clear, a blazing planet low on the horizon. Once or twice a meteor burned its way into the earth's atmosphere.

“It occurred to me that if this were a sight that could be seen only once in a century or even once in a human generation, this little headland would be thronged with spectators. But it can be seen many scores of nights in any year, and so the lights burned in the cottages and the inhabitants probably gave not a thought to the beauty overhead; and because they could see it almost any night perhaps they will never see it.”

There is no such thing as passing through Bato, Leyte! You have to stop for the BBQ!

To quote Bret:

"This is soo good!" - As he chomped into some grilled fish and chicken!

Yup, the baywalk in Bato is home to a lot of delicious bbq! If you come to the Philippines, make sure you explore local bbq stands! Not only are they affordable, but locals here know how to grill food!!

If you find yourself nearby Bato at night time... YOU HAVE TO STOP AT THEIR BAYWALK! All of the #FighterBoys were happy with the food there!

Chicken, Pork, Fish, Squid... EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS! Oh, and for all of us, the entire bill came to only 1537 pesos. That is 30 dollars for nine people to eat an incredible amount of grilled food... with hanging rice of course!

Have you eaten bbq in Bato, Leyte!?

YOU SHOULD!

One day at a time, One bbq night at a time... #BecomingFilipino

The Dobrota Tur (White Russians Historical Tour)Test Run Part II: The Tubabao Sunset

Among the things the Russian refugees commonly mention about their stay at Tubabao - which they say they have never forgotten - is the "amazing sunsets" they enjoyed at the island.

Hence, part of the tour is the sunset cruise around the island.

Beta Test Run of the Dobrota Tur - The White Russians Transit Commemoration Tour (Part I of 4)
Tubabao, Guiuan, Eastern Samar
17 February 2019

In 1949, anti-communist so-called White Russian refugees seeked shelter and were welcomed in the Philippines.

From 1949 to 1951, Tubabao Island in Guiuan, Eastern Samar - which served as a receiving station of the US Naval Base Construction Depot during WWII - became the biggest refugee camp in Philippine history, accommodating nearly 6,000 White Russians.

They were called "White Russians" as they were members or supporters of the Czar’s Imperial court where the official color was white. They were anti-communist and fought the Bolsheviks, or the Reds, during the Russian Civil War in 1917, later fleeing to European countries and Shanghai, China.

After fleeing Russia for China, they again had to leave and seek refuge when the Maoist revolutionary army took over Shanghai. Of all the countries in the world, only the Philippines under President Elpidio Quirino accepted them.

The White Russians were “cream of the crop” of the Russian community in Shanghai, thus the Tubabao camp had many professors, engineers, architects, artists, ballerinas, doctors, lawyers, priests, and former officers of the Czar’s army.

The refugees held concerts and cultural shows. Among the thousands of refugees living in the Tubabao camp was a holy man, Vladyka (Bishop) John. On July 2, 1994, the Russian Orthodox Church canonized him as a saint.

The former refugees and their children have expressed their gratitude to the Philippines for hosting them in Tubabao Island where they found “a paradise, a beach and hope.”

The White Russians still carry the memory of Tubabao as they remember "the sunset, the freedom, the warmth of the Filipinos, and strength demonstrated by their people."

The Beta Test Run team assessing the “Dobrota Tur” or the White Russians Transit Commemoration Tour started at Sea Quest (Tanghay Resort) in Guiuan crossing the narrow channel to Brgy San Juan in Tubabao Island.

From there, the team trekked to the main sites or locations of the White Russian Refugee Camp, winding up at Brgy. Camparang where the motorised boat took the team around the island for the sunset cruise.
