Christmas is just around the corner and with that comes celebrations, alcohol and lots and lots of food!
This year we want to help keep your furry friends as safe and healthy as possible. So here are some holiday tips:
- be careful what you put under the tree, especially chocolate! Dogs are very good at sniffing out a chocolate treat and may help themselves to your presents.
-When decorating your home, be careful not to keep candy canes at nose level of your pooch. And for new puppies or notorious chewers be careful with electrical wire.
- Try not to overinduldge your pet in christmas tucker eg ham, breads and table scraps. Certain foods can be toxic to cats and dogs and overinduldgence could lead to vomiting , diarrhoea or even a trip to the vets! Instead how about a pigs ear to keep your dog entertained while the family tucks in.
We hope you have a wonderful christmas.

Lots of people often have trouble visualizing what their overweight animals should look like at a pet weight. Veterinarians will give various descriptions to owners, such as how there should be a tuck in the waist visible from both the top down and from the side profile for many breeds. Here are some outlined photos of overweight dogs to show what a rough acceptable weight would look like on them. Every breed is unique and will have different attributes for their build and body style depending on their lineage.

Please understand if veterinary staff ask you to wear a face mask when you visit their clinics - and please do wear a mask. This helps keep everyone safe - especially as Auckland moves out of Alert Level 3. It also ensures the veterinary business is operating within the latest Government advice for Alert Levels 2 and 3. See http://ow.ly/HsZS50B38vd.
The Government encourages people to wear a face masks in places where you can't keep 2 metres away from people you don't know - like in veterinary clinics! See http://ow.ly/jcDv50B38vf
We support our members who ask their clients to use masks as a precaution when visiting their veterinary business.
Just a friendly reminder we are in level 2 next week
Hereβs what 2 metres looks like with dogs πΆ
As we enter level two, please be aware that MPI have seperate guidelines for the veterinary industry. We require the following;
1. We still require clients to call from the carpark on their arrival and follow the direction of the nurses as we need to monitor how many people are inside the building at once due to social distancing.
2. We can only have one healthy person per animal in the building and this person will be required to wear a mask.
If you do not want to wear a mask, we can have your pet in the clinic and you can wait in the vehicle and the vets will call you to discuss your concerns.
3. No cash will be accepted. We can use the eftpos terminals.
4. Nurses will be present in consult to hold your pets.
5. Anyone entering the building will be required to wear a mask. As will staff for the duration of the their shift.
6. We can still do deliveries of food, medications etc and pick up/drop offs for pets. Please chat to the nursing staff about this service.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused but we have to follow the regulations set by MPI.
Stay kind, stay safe.
In covid level 3, we can book in consults. The time slots will be 30 mins each to allow for your pets to be placed on the deck, either in cages or on the lead provided, and have a nurse in PPE collect them and bring them inside. Owners will be required to wait in the car park and be available on their cell phone for the duration of the consult. Once complete, the nurses will phone through for payment over the phone by credit or debit card and then your pet will be returned to the front step. The door will remain locked.
We have limited availability for surgery so this will continue to be assessed on a case by case basis.
Please continue to call for all food and prescription orders.
We can deliver items to your door daily. Please discuss this with the nurses when you place your order.
Stay safe, be kind.
With the recent government announcement we will be going back to our locked doors policy as of August 12th 2020, initially for three days.
Please call our staff on 09 4247752 for all food orders and repeat prescriptions. These will all require a credit card payment over the phone. You can also email orders to [email protected] and we will contact you when they are ready to be paid and collected.
We can deliver all purchases in the clinic vehicle. Please talk to the nurses when you place orders to arrange this.
We will not be able to accept cash in level 3. All payments will need to be made on on credit or debit card.
WHEN YOU ARRIVE IN THE CARPARK, please phone through to the reception desk as this is the only way we can keep our staff safe. All staff will be required to wear PPE and will be doing our best to accommodate everyone.
We will be unable to do consultations for routine and non emergencies. Our nurses will be working extremely hard over the next few days to accomodate all our patient and client needs so please respect the pressure they are under when calling.
Practice good hygiene - stay home if you're sick.
Stay safe, be kind.
Please make sure that your pets are safe by having all dogs on leads and cats in cages when you arrive at the clinic. We have many animals coming and going we would hate for one to get scared. We have spare leads and cages so please ask if you need assistance before you bring your pet inside π We are aware you may be ok with your animal not being restrained but that doesnβt mean there isnβt another one walking in that isnβt ok with off leash dogs or uncaged cats.
The winner of our bravecto competition, hopefully one happy and snuggly cat π
