[03/23/20]   Unfortunately in this crazy time all upcoming fittings will need to be cancelled due to Covid19 restrictions. I will contact you directly to chat about what this means for your gown construction windows. All current gowns I will continue working away on till I get stalled and need a fitting. It looks like I will be unable to see any clients for at least the next month while NZ is on level 4. However if you are a new client want to have a chat about a gown and maybe get a quote I’m still available. We can’t meet just yet though but we can do a lot via Skype and email. I’m so sorry to muck anyone around. If you have any questions please call or email me. Please stay safe and healthy. Best of luck to everyone. Much love. Vanessa ###

I want to take a bit of a left turn from wedding & evening gowns for a second to show you my latest gown creation and art fantasy photo shoot collaboration between myself the extremely talented Vanessa Wood from Suede Studios. Its always so fun to shoot with Vanessa Wood and I'm so chuffed I've had the chance to work with her so many times. She is just an amazing creative and intuitive force. Many thanks to our beautiful model Mikayla Burton who is not only absolutely lovely, professional and kind but I think perfection for this gown. And a huge thank you also to the kindred spirit Donna Jones at the out of this world divinely beautiful Shabby Manor for the use of the studio and exterior locations and for all your energy and the wonderful props and set design. Remember girls... even feminists can wear pink!

Sneak peak... coming soon... Casting call for a new model for my next custom made art gown that’s been years in the works... this one is going to be OTT. Collaboration with the amazing art fantasy photography of Vanessa Wood. https://www.facebook.com/323231967727910/posts/2936633386387742/?d=n

CASTING CALL NOW CLOSED

We have found our model. Thank you to all those who applied.

I'm on the hunt for a model who can rock an extravagant Rococo gown for a TFP shoot in Auckland. The gown designer (also named Vanessa) and I are looking to shoot this month or in January. A pre-shoot fitting is required.
Size: 8-10.
Hair: Preferably long and red. Will also consider blonde, strawberry blonde or grey.
Age & Gender: I'm open minded, but must be 18+ and bring your own boobs if you're a dude ;-)
No previous modelling experience necessary, but must be a good poser and have stamina...this gown is epic! Think Marie Antoinette.
Message me if you are interested or know someone who might be. Thanks.

I’m so chuffed and proud to share these photos from my beautiful bride Prue. This is a blush lace and chiffon over duchess satin gown with bead and pearl belt and double layered tulle veil. Such a pleasure from start to finish. Just lovely.

I'm very chuffed to give you a sneak peak of my lovely client Sabina's recent wedding. Such devine children! Sabina's gown has elegant simple clean lines with a deep v shape in the back and a full mid length train and was very comfortable which is rare for a wedding gown. It is made from this amazing one of a kind vintage 1920's cream cotton lace. Both her daughters flower girl dresses have a little bridal satin singlet dress with lace straps like Mums dress and a lace hem underneath the lace, chiffon or tulle over dress. Effectively two dresses in one so they can be worn separately with the flower belt. I also made her sons matching vest and both ties to match. It was a joy from start to finish working with Sabina and her family. Thank you.

Big thank you to my client Bonnie for letting me show these pictures of her beautiful wedding gown and day. This is a one of a kind, two piece, chapel length train, hand beaded, hand applied lace wedding gown. For this gown I did a very unique under bustle so that the entire chapel length train ends up as a puddle length train so she could walk around with ease. Such a beautiful bride, such a nice person and such a joy to work together to design and create something so cool and unique.

[12/21/16]   Seasons Greetings from VJ Burton Gowns. Hope you all have a very
merry holiday season and new year. I am going to be closed for fittings from tomorrow 22/12/16 to 21/1/17. But I'm still contactable during this time by phone or email so please don't hesitate.

Good luck to all my January Brides. I'll be thinking of you on your special days. X

Its golden color is actually the natural color of the barley straw which is a source of constant amazement to me. I have not altered it, it is naturally this gold. It was a very time consumi...

Now the museum show only has a month to go I though I'd share a quick picture of my World of Wearable Art museum piece. The Barley Dancer I made from a bale of barley straw from 2015 WOW. Wonderful museum, my piece is right at the start. It goes on and on each piece more cool, you leave with your jaw on the floor. I was so inspired and thrilled. Hubby enjoyed the classic cars a bit too much. I had to drag him out. Nelson is so beautiful, worth a trip. I'm beyond word to have a piece shown in this beautiful space with so many talented artists. I don't feel I deserve it but I'm so chuffed.

I can finally show my 2016 World of Wearable Arts entry call Bar-Block-O. Made from felt, gold paper pins and chains. I was very chuffed to see it come out first on stage in the Weta Costume & Film section. No awards won this year but it was still terribly exciting to see it worn and come to life. It's a wonderful show, a work of art in itself! Go see it if you can.
