Prime Minister & 2 others // NANTU & 3 others in the High Court of Namibia before Justice Masuku.

Adv Corbett, on behalf of the Government, began leading argument this morning by making the Government’s position clear.

This case is not a matter of weighing citizen’s rights against each other-

the right to education vs the right to strike.

Instead the constitutional right to strike is recognised, respected and upheld, but the necessary deployment plan for a safe, peaceful strike needs to be put in place before the strike can commence.

Argument by NANTU, represented by Adv Heathcote, is still to be heard.

Students from NUST and IUM started a peaceful and very creative movement in Windhoek yesterday to create awareness of the problems facing graduates due to the high levels of unemployment.

In light of the manner in which students in other Southern African countries air their grievances, their clever, respectful approach is commended.
