The latest MCCI Newsfeed is available here 👉 “University-Industry Collaborations: The way Forward” was the theme chosen by the University of Mauritius (UoM) to mark the third day of the Innovation Week 2020, which was held on Wednesday the 2nd of December.

An interactive session between the President of the Republic of Seychelles, Mr Wavel Ramkalawan, the Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, Dr Renganaden Padayachy, and representatives of the private sector was held on 1st December 2020 at the Sugar Beach Hotel in Flic en Flac. 🇸🇨

In his address, President Ramkalawan highlighted that it is a privilege for him to address the Mauritian business community as the private sector has greatly contributed and is still contributing to establish Mauritius as an economic powerhouse in the Indian Ocean. The number of Mauritian firms established in the Indian Ocean, he stated, shows that there is an opportunity to explore avenues of cooperation between Mauritius and Seychelles. As such, he invited Mauritian companies to invest in Seychelles, particularly in sectors which offer great opportunities such as recreation and leisure, blue economy, and aquaculture.

In view of the introduction of the Extended Producer Responsibility for Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations, an information session was held at the MCCI on 24 November 2020 which was delivered by Mr Prakash Kowlessur, Director of Ministry of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change.

He highlighted the importance of implementing the EPR regulations, and the obligations of all stakeholders involved aiming to foster circular economy. During the interactive session, the obligations of all stakeholders involved were discussed.

Read our latest newsfeed here ➡️ A Memorandum of Understanding was signed on Wednesday 4 November 2020 between the British High Commissioner, His Excellency Mr Keith Allan, and the President of the MCCI, Mr. Guillaume Hugnin, during an official ceremony held at the Caudan Arts Centre, in Port-Louis.

A new business ecosystem is emerging as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Given the economic uncertainties, many companies, especially small and medium enterprises (SMEs), are currently reassessing their cost structure.

It is in this context that the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) came up with an initiative to support these businesses through the installation of solar panels on their premises in a bid to address their operational challenges while promoting green business practices.

This project will benefit from a financial support from the British High Commission. To this end, a partnership agreement was signed on Wednesday 4 November 2020 during an official ceremony held at the Caudan Arts Centre, in Port-Louis.

Read our latest newsfeed here ➡️ The Annual Report 2019/ 2020 comprises the Speech of the President at the 171st Annual General Meeting on the State of the Economy, held on 23 July 2020, the activities of the MCCI during the year as well as the list of members.

Climate change has highlighted the importance of reducing dependence on fossil fuels and transitioning to renewable sources of energy. PV panels use solar energy to produce electricity which reduces the carbon footprint of firms while allowing them to be more cost competitive and save on utility bills in their business operations.

PV panels would thus enable SMEs to become more sustainable and competitive which is more vital than ever due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The MCCI is, therefore, conducting a small survey to get insights about the operational challenges faced by Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, and to create awareness about PV panels and the free training on PV panel installation and maintenance that the MCCI will provide.

We would appreciate if you could fill in the questionnaire by Thursday 15th October 2020 ➡️
