FLO Cyber Summit - 5 Nov 2019

They came, they saw, they left us in shock! The reality of the virtual world was unmasked from every perspective by the phenomenal all women panel in the first ever FLO CYBER SUMMIT - 2019. The trailblazer women from the cyber security domain who don roles in global policy making, anti-terrorism strategies, cutting edge technology and the daring on the ground operations shook us into becoming aware of the dangers and the ease with which our lives can be hacked!

We had a shuffled ore set seating arrangement to get members to make new friends. The morning started with a fun ice breaker game to warm things up.

The keynote address by Latha Reddy, Co-chair, Global Commission on Stability of CyberSpace and Fmr Deputy Director NSA set the stage for the summit by giving a broad view of global cyber security policies and the need of the hour for awareness and collaboration across borders.

With cyber attacks like Pegasus hitting home and the headlines in the past few days, (which by the way the experts opined as one of the vanilla flavours of the threatscape!), various issues of cyber responsibility, cyber hygiene, cyber laws, procedures etc were discussed. From phishing to dark web’s real incidents, from nation state hackers to the global cyber security crisis, we reached newer awareness levels!

A LIVE hacking of our mobiles on stage by Shubha Sunil, the anti terrorism expert in less than 10 seconds left us flabbergasted and changed our view of the mobile phone being a smart device into a snooping device we have to be weary about!

As we welcome the Siri’s and the Alexa’s into our homes and lives, we are now left wondering who is serving whom! Are we using the free accounts/apps and feeding its owners our sensitive and intimate information which we otherwise would not even share with our spouse? The answer was a thumping YES from the experts, Arati Sankhe of McAfee and Isha Pant, the dashing DCP of Blr South East.

Jija Hari Singh, Fmr DGP, Karnataka gave us the views from her diverse roles of policy making to implementation and advocated cyber-fasting and cyber zones within the house to physically restrict usage with a sprinkle of her wit and experience.

Cyber Security is a domain that is predicted to have 0% unemployment and the careers and potential were outlined by the experts. The panel discussion was moderated by our own FLO member, Bindu Sastry, a cyber security expert. She also ran our members through a pop quiz at the end to see how much they absorbed. The winners got meaningful tech gifts !

In conclusion, the panel underlined how in our varied roles as women, we need to create awareness for ourselves, our families, our nation and always be responsible when we are online and using smart devices which have integrated into our existence.

The Internet does not have a DELETE button ladies! Beware of what you post, share and stay cyber savvy, safe and secure!

#FLOBangalore is #IntheNews. FLO Bangalore's event #FLOMasterChef2019 with Sarah Todd Masterchef covered in Bengaluru Express, The New Indian Express.

G2K

The winners of the #FLOMasterChef2019 shared a dash of experience, a pinch of creativity and a heaping spoonful of discerning taste buds all neatly tucked into Bento Boxes. Judges Sarah Todd Masterchef and Executive Chef (The Leela Palace Bengaluru) Mir Zafar Ali had their jobs cut out for sure! With a vast variety of mystery ingredients to choose from, the irresistible dishes were whipped up on the spot - in under an hour, showcasing excellent team work, swiftness in preparation and finally beautiful presentation, all of which earned them special points and awards!

In addition, audience members of #FLOBangalore were treated to a heartfelt tête-à-tête with the incredible charming and humble Sarah Todd who very candidly shared her life’s journey thus far with all with it’s ups and downs along with juicy tidbits, like did you know the day after her famous Aloo-Gobhi show aired on #MasterchefAustralia she had a whopping 50K new followers ALL from India!

After the talk, she took multiple questions from the ladies and then the much anticipated FICCI-FLO Cookbook was released. Books like these are created by the cadres of women who daily cook delicious wholesome meals without any fanfare for their family and friends and are the true guardians of our culture and times. These lovely women members of FLO Bangalore graciously shared some of the most coveted family recipes, rarely divulged elsewhere.

The much awaited awards ceremony was the last event of the day, after which the guests assembled were treated to scrumptious lunch curated by the amazing chefs of The Leela Palace. Some of the spectacular dishes from the elaborate buffet were the Vietnamese Pho soup and the Japanese Okonomiyaki savoury pancakes, which had the ladies queuing up for seconds.

FICCI-FLO is the ladies wing of the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and was created in 1983. The group is famous for organising fabulous events in the fields of art, culture, and social responsibility - and as always, this event was nothing short of spectacular under the able guidance of Chairperson Shruti Mittal.
