The Aussie Flu has reached Ireland. If you have not had your flu vaccine yet the HSE are advising people to get it as soon as possible. People who have been recommended to drink Lucozade Energy Original when their blood glucose is low should be aware that the formulation of the drink has changed. Some useful information regarding the Zika Virus
The most important measure to prevent infection with Zika virus or other infections transmitted by mosquitoes is to avoid mosquito bites. Women who are pregnant or are trying to become pregnant should consult their doctor or seek advice from a travel clinic before travelling to a country affected by Zika virus. They should also consider postponing their travel to affected areas.

Glanmire Medical Centre offers the Meningitis B vaccine to children whose parents wish to avail of this service. Meningococcal Group B (MenB) is the killer bacteria which is the leading cause of meningitis and septicaemia in Ireland. Ireland has the highest rate of Men B in Europe.
The Meningitis B vaccination is not available as part of the National Childhood Immunisations program. The vaccine has to be bought privately and our doctors can give you a prescription for this.
The vaccine is not covered by the medical card. The cost of the vaccine is €156 per shot and 2-3 shots will be required depending on the age of your child.

This scheme entitles your child to Free GP Care once you have registered.
If you have not already registered, please do so as soon as possible. If you are having difficulty registering at home, our reception staff can do it for you on your next visit to the practice.

All our Doctors at Glanmire Medical Centre are participating in the provision of services to the GP Visit for children under 6 years old Scheme. From 1 July 2015, children under the age of 6 are entitled to free visits to GPs that are taking part in the scheme. Children can be registered from 15 June 2015 to get a GP visit card for children under 6. In addition to free GP visits, the card covers specific assessments at age 2 and 5 and care for children with asthma. If your child or children have a Medical Card or GP Visit Card they will automatically be registered for this new scheme.
