After a long break and lots of thought, I've decided to close my cake business. Running my own business alongside doing another job was tough to say the least. The hours making cakes were long and often anti-social, and it took me away from my family much more than I anticipated. Worst of all, I fell out of love with making cakes. ☹
This fabulous cake journey has allowed me to meet and connect with some wonderful, and very talented fellow cake makers. I still love seeing all your work and being inspired by your creativity. But this journey has also highlighted what is important to me - time with the people I love, and not needlessly working myself into the ground - and I've realised that for me, two professions is one too many.
I'm incredibly lucky; I love my other job and so cakes were never a way for me to escape 'the daily grind'. I also have a wonderful husband, who has always supported me and picked up everything that I had to drop in order to make cakes. ❤

A week ago I put my first ever competition piece on the table at Cake International to be judged. I'm happy and proud to be able to use this badge 😀 Roll on the next competition!
So, my first competition is done and I am unbelievably pleased to have won a certificate of merit for my piece. 😀 It was a bumpy ride to get here - my original exhibit collapsed the day before the competition and, despite a rescue attempt, was completely beyond repair. I nearly gave up, thinking I wouldn't enter with less than a day to make something else, but with support and inspiration from my friends and family I looked at what was left of my original structure, stripped it down and made what you see in the pictures. It's called, 'When your competition piece collapses less than 24 hours before Cake International'. Despite the drama I can't wait to do another competition and have learn some valuable lessons in resilience and perseverance from my first one. Hi everyone! October is going to be a quiet month in terms of cake posts from me, and the reason is that I've decided to enter a competition at Cake International on the first weekend of November😬 I've wanted to do a competition for a while and this seemed like the perfect time. Cake International is a big annual cake show, which takes place in Birmingham and London (I'm entering the Birmingham show). It attracts amazing cake artists from around the world, so although I'm not expecting to get anything it is a great opportunity to be creative and it will be a fantastic experience. So, I'm taking some time out this month to take a breather after a busy summer and to focus on the competition. I'll keep you posted on progress and share my entry with you when it is made. 😀
I was so honoured to make this #NHS70 cake for the Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust's Long Service Awards. With lots of friends and family members being part of the fantastic workforce that keeps our NHS going it was great to be a part of these celebrations, which recognise and thank contributions from local people who have given years to our brilliant health service. I love how it looks against the stage branding by Yarrington LTD too! I hope everyone had a great afternoon. Also, congratulations to all the #sathVIP awards nominees and winners last night.
This definitely wins the award for the heaviest cake I've made to date! Three tiers of vanilla sponge with raspberry jam and vanilla buttercream and a Mod themed design, topped off with a vintage Vespa-style scooter. Happy 50th Peter.
A football pitch themed cake for a young man celebrating his 5th birthday this week. Happy birthday Toby!
A 70th birthday cake for a lady who is a big Cathkidston fan, and who particularly loved the lemon print from this year. I also took inspiration from one of their stripe prints for the bottom tier. This was such a fun cake to make, from the yellow polka dot board, to the little roses on the bunting. The top tier is a fruit cake and the bottom tier is a vanilla sponge with raspberry jam and vanilla buttercream.
A #christening cake that went out today. This is the most sugar flowers I've had to make for a cake to date - LOTS of work 😆 Pretty pleased with the end result too. It looked lovely in the venue.
This was one of those cakes that I couldn't wait to get started on. A cute barnyard themed cake for a little girl turning 3. Modelling all the animals and putting the scene together was so much fun. A slightly different take on a cake with two tiers as well.

Another cake from last week - a recreation of the desk belonging to a man turning 60. Apparently this is his desk where he works as a journalist and also likes to keep a pair of binoculars, so that he can keep an eye on the comings and goings of birds in his garden.
Today my baby boy turned 4 😣 And to make the ocassion even more agonising, he requested a cake that he had seen when I was watching a YouTube tutorial by my cake idol @ZoesFancyCakes ...and due to a customer order I only had an evening to put it together 😱 No pressure!!! Although not nearly as detailed as Zoe's, he was a very happy customer, which is what counts for me.

How to Train your Dragon was the theme of this cake, made for a young man turning 7. It's been a scorcher of a week and this cake was a little more challenging to make than it would have been in cooler weather, but I got there in the end!
Don't think we'll be seeing any rainbows in the sky today in sunny Shropshire 😎 Here is the second cake of last week - a rainbow and bow themed christening cake made with a mixture of beautiful @bakingtimeclub sprinkles (I LOVE these!). Enjoy your day everyone 😀
A pretty cake ordered by a lovely young woman for her mum's birthday. A white and pink marbled bottom tier with edible gold leaf highlights, a pearlised pink middle tier, and a simple white top tier with a sparkly gold 'Fifty and fabulous' topper. And not forgetting the spray of pink roses.

A colourful unicorn cake for a little girl turning 7. Inside were pink and cream layers of vanilla sponge filled with strawberry conserve and vanilla buttercream. Happy birthday Beatrice!
I have donated this cake to Wishing Well Home Care, who are holding a coffee morning / bake off to raise money for people suffering with dementia. It's happening at the sports and social club in Wem NOW! This disease is so cruel and having watched a friend support her mother, who suffers with dementia, and seeing the heartbreak it has inflicted on the whole family I am happy to be able to support this cause in some way. Go along if you have the chance ☺
A vintage luggage themed wedding cake for Chris and Sarah's wedding yesterday at the lovely @albrighthussey (lots of happy memories from events at this great Shropshire hotel). Plain sponge with raspberry jam and vanilla buttercream for the bottom tier and chocolate sponge and buttercream for the top.
The couple supplied the cute topper for the cake - I've never seen one made from felt before 😍 I hope a fantastic day was had by all.
Business and pleasure this week. I made the wedding cake for two wonderful friends who I went to university with. They didn't want a traditional wedding cake; they wanted something which represented the place that they first met and the place where they found eachother again 15 years later. The cake is Constitution Hill from the town where we all met (including me and my husband), Aberystwyth, complete with the cliff railway and Camera Obscura building. Chilling out on the beach is the statue of Charles Darwin from outside Shrewsbury Library, in a slightly more relaxed position than usual and with the added embellishment of a traffic cone on his head. The library was where they bumped into one another again and their journey towards marriage began. I also made a selection of cupcakes to go with the main cake. I thought that this baby shower cake might bee a bit of a challenge - my fondant has been a bit tricky to work with lately with the weather warming up, but luckily it beehived itself. Buzzing with how it turned out. Please feel free to contribute bee puns of your own!!

It was a pleasure to be able to make their celebration cake - huge congratulations to them for reaching this milestone and may many more successful years lie ahead. I could have done with a cup of coffee about this size this morning!
Heeeeey Duggee!! I love the animation on Hey Duggee so when I was asked to make a cake for a little one turning 2 with this theme I was a bit more excited about it than a thirty-something should be 😆 I love this cake and loved making every tiny detail, from the birthday badge that Duggee is holding to the little plates and napkins on the picnic blanket.
Morning all! It has been a very busy few months and so me and the family are taking a much-needed holiday over the Easter break. Therefore, I will be closed from midday today until Monday 16th April. RECIPE TESTING DAY 😀 And I think we have a winner! This summery little treat is a moist vanilla cake filled with strawberry buttercream. The buttercream is my usual light buttercream with chopped fresh strawberries beaten into it; I love the pale pink tone and bright red flecks that they create. My daughter, who usually moans if I make anything other than chocolate cakes, hoovered her slice up and immediately asked for more before suggesting I "put the cake on Tamsin's Showstopper Cakes" 😂 Her wish being my command, here it is.
#tbt About a year ago I made this cake for a lovely little lady, who has since turned 10 😱 This was the first cake I had made for someone who wasn't a family member and was terrified! If I could go back in time I would definitely tell myself to chill out a bit 😂
