Music in the Round

Thanks MITR Festival at Home..we enjoyed Matt's Steve Reich Concert and talk.
My husband Malcolm Holmes and I are now unable to attend any Music In The Round concerts. There isn't a hearing loop system in the Crucible Studio and for the second time the hearing loop system in the Upper Chapel didn't work at all at my own collaborative concert!
Unique and incredible live music event this Wednesday 9th at Theatre Deli Sheffield - pls spread the word and maybe get down there and give it some support. Event page:
Are you an actor who sings or plays an instrument or a musician who acts? There is an increasing demand in professional theatre for practitioners who have the versatility to combine top-level skills in acting with professional musicianship. Contemporary theatre practice incorporates multiple disciplines, performers are required to ‘act’ in the traditional sense, but increasingly, to also play instruments. Distinctive and practical dual training for actors who have musical skills and musicians who have acting skills. BA(Hons) Actor Musician at The University Centre Wakefield.
Good to have you listed ...

It’s day 7 of our LIVE-STREAMED festival and we’re celebrating all things natural; from a spell-binding Die Schöne Müllerin by Ashley Riches and Sholto Kynoch, to ‘Songs of the Stars’ in a late night concert by Lotte Betts-Dean and Sean Shibe, we can’t wait to share today’s goodies with you.

Die Schöne Müllerin
We welcome back rising star baritone Ashley Riches to perform Schubert’s poignant Die schöne Müllerin, whose young protagonist strides out into an inhospitable world, passes through anger and loss, and finally casts himself into the bubbling brook.

Solace in Nature
In the magical surroundings of Harcourt Arboretum, three fascinating speakers discuss nature, mental health, and music, with particular reference to Ivor Gurney and featuring performances from an acclaimed young duo.

Winners of the Oxford Lieder Young Artist Platform: Siân Dicker & Krystal Tunnicliffe
Oxford Lieder Young Artist Platform winners Siân Dicker and Krystal Tunnicliffe follow our ‘Solace in Nature’ event with an uplifting programme on birds, bees, and all manner of animals, with music ranging from Beethoven and Fanny Mendelssohn to Richard Rodney Bennett and Cole Porter.

Settings of Thomas Hardy: Roderick Williams and Christopher Glynn
Roderick Williams, who has given many memorable Festival recitals, here brings settings of Thomas Hardy, whose nature poetry is constantly concerned with the passage of time and has proven an inspiration to countless composers. The exceptional young soprano Rowan Pierce, who sang some glorious Purcell for us last year in the Ashmolean Museum, will begin this evening’s concert with a short set of Schubert songs.

Songs of the Stars: Lotte Betts-Dean & Sean Shibe
The stunning Radcliffe Observatory (the University observatory from 1773 until 1934) this evening plays host to two outstanding performers in songs of the night and stars by Dowland, Schubert, Britten, Mompou, Debussy and Seiber.

Here's the team 😍😍 Welcoming our very first audiences today in #Sheffield 👍🎶 #HappyFriday #Sheffieldissuper #HereForCulture

We are thrilled to introduce you to the 2020-21 RPS Composers!

- Alex Paxton
- Ayanna Witter-Johnson
- James B. Wilson
- Jonathan Woolgar
- Lucy Hale
- Ruta Vitkauskaite
- Sylvia Lim

Each of our composers will receive a commission from the RPS and a performance with a noted British ensemble, venue or festival. But it doesn’t stop there: we help them plan their next steps, build their profile, gain a practical understanding in how the profession works, and meet valuable contacts, ensuring they can secure future commissions and performances of their own. To achieve this, we are indebted to our partner organisations – the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Wigmore Hall, Music in the Round, Cheltenham Festivals and Presteigne Festival – and to Schott Music whose team share their expertise in a series of dedicated sessions.

We are also particularly grateful to our generous donors and supporters including ABRSM, Garrick Charitable Trust, PRS Foundation, RVW Trust, Presteigne Festival, and the Susan Bradshaw Composers' Fund.

For more about each of our composers and to listen to some of their work, head over to our website:
