"3 years ago, I decided to try one more time to try to lose weight. I weighed 457#'s and could barely walk 150 steps at a time. A friend/"sister" of mine, Angie was trying to lose weight and I thought if she could try, so could I. She was doing 2 protein shakes a day. I knew I didn't want to do a diet. I had tried every diet out there only to lose a few pounds and then gain it all back plus. I knew I had to make a lifestyle change. I started off just doing the 2 shakes a day plus 3 other meals. Once I was comfortable with that, I bought a pedometer and challenged myself to just walk 100 more steps every day. I then started counting calories using an app called Myfitnesspal. I continued to make just one small change at a time. After about a couple of months, I knew I needed to increase my activity and so I started to ride a Pedego Electric Bikes. I could pedal for awhile, use the motor to assist me when I would get tired. It was a way for me to get out and get moving. I fell in love with cycling. These past few years have been incredible. I never imagined how making just one small change at a time would change my life. I have regained my health, I'm starting to have a little more self confidence, and so many more opportunities are available to me. The picture on the left is my before and the picture on the right is from the half marathon I completed a couple of weeks ago. That was my 4th half marathon. Last year, I was able to compete in 4 sprint triathlons. I have met so many supportive and positive people along the way. It has been amazing. My journey will never be over. This a lifestyle that I plan to keep for the rest of my life. I ask that you please share this post. I want everyone to understand it is possible to change their lives by just making one small change at a time and by setting countless mini goals along the way."

[11/03/15]   It's not too late to start this months challenge, 10,000 steps per day for 30 days. :)

[11/01/15]   This Months Callange

Challenge yourself to walk 10,000 steps a day for the next 30 days.

You don’t need to do all 10,000 steps in one big chunk, break it up though out the day. I use my phone to measure my steps but you can get a podometer for a couple of pounds, so no excuses!

Why do it!
* You will feel healthier
* You don't need expensive gym equipment
* Improves blood cholesterol levels
* Helps improve sleep quality
* Improves your immune system
* Walking strengthens the heart and cardiovascular system
* Helps improve mood and relieve stress
* Counters anxiety and depression and increases enthusiasm and optimism
* Good for weight management
* Boosts your vitamin D levels if your walking outdoors
* Walking Combats Arthritis and Strengthens Joints
* It can help prevent dementia
* Regular walking has been shown to reduce the risk of chronic illnesses, such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, asthma, stroke and some cancers.

The list of the benefits of walking (or any other physical activity) is long, so let's do this thing!

Key facts:
10,000 steps (roughly 5 miles). 10,000 steps daily will burn between 400-500 calories.
Walking also increases muscle mass and tone and the more muscle you have, the faster your metabolism, so the more calories you burn, even at rest.

They say it takes 28 days to form new habits and 10,000 hours to become an expert at something.

Little changes, progressively is what is needed. Small changes become habits and that breeds consistency.
