It's International Yoga Day! Yoga is a safe and effective form of exercise that focuses on strength, flexibility and breathing to improve balance, lower body strength and boost physical and mental well-being.

We stayed in a cosy cabin with good access to the mountain walk - chose the Snowdon ranger path as easiest in the arctic weather! Discussing the need for a space to feel and recognise your emotions (cry too) for overall wellbeing and how yoga isn't about "making shapes" but so much more - self-compassion, being gentle with yourself, being present and not needing to be any more than you are right now
Helping a student gain more mobility in her legs and lessen pain in the outer knee/thigh with stretches for the IT band - who knew there are so many!
Throw in a couple of trips up and down Duke Street, rest and reflection and prepping later for group class at Quaker Meeting House

It has been a chilly week, well done for making it to class. Hoping the weather hasn't caused you too much stress and discomfort. We've been lucky to have snow in Liverpool, a pretty and magical sight on some days. I amsterdam... I did quite a bit of running a few years back and ran the Amsterdam marathon in 2010. Was such a great time and I remember using my yoga to help keep injuries at bay and focus on breathing deeply. So happy to be running again! Yoga by the Christmas tree this afternoon @whiscwomenshealth Rest at a time of year we often feel more tired, an overall stretch when we want to curl up on the sofa but can benefit greatly from keeping active, both physically and mentally. I've been so proud of these women for showing up each week - a sign of inner strength, dedication and self-motivation. Join us next Monday for a well deserved candle meditation and treats.

There is more and more research going into the benefits of yoga for depression and other mental health issues. These findings published in the New Scientist are pretty impressive, wouldn't you agree? Yoga is often used for stress relief. A recent study determines if practicing Bikram hot yoga may also reduce symptoms of depression.
