Check out the post about English for Lawyers Summer 2016 alum Patty Quijano! Patty is now an Alumni Fund scholar in the LLM International Law at American University program.

Alumni Fund Scholar Patricia Quijano Vallejos joined the ILSP program this year, specializing in international environmental law. With a bachelor’s in law (2010) and a master’s in regulation of public services (2014), both from Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru, she worked in the public sector in Peru at: the National Agency for the Defense of Free Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi), National Agency for Environmental Assessment and Enforcement (OEFA), and the National Agency for the Promotion of Oil and Gas Investments (Perupetro). Based on her experience in the field, Patricia saw a strong need for more specialized professionals in environmental regulations in Peru. Therefore, she decided to pursue an LLM at AUWCL to learn about US and international environmental regulations. She hopes to contribute in Peru to the creation of integrated approaches that facilitate partnerships among governments, industries, and communities. Through AUWCL, Patricia has had the opportunity to extern with the World Bank, join the WCL Environmental Law Society, serve as a judge for environmental and human rights moot courts, and work as a Dean’s Fellow for the Academy on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law. Of her time at AUWCL, Patricia says “Hillary Clinton said in one of the last speeches for her presidential campaign, “Never stop believing that fighting for what is right is worth it.” In one word, this is what AUWCL taught me.” #AlumniFundScholars
