Peer Mentorship Form Spring 2019

Hello again!

This is just a friendly reminder for all of you to check out the Peer Mentorship Program for nursing students, presented by the Canadian Nursing Students' Association.

This program is meant to provide support and connect all levels of nursing students (BSN and LPN). Mentors should be willing to guide their mentees with a variety of things ranging from questions about campus, resources available, to more specific questions about courses and personal experience. Above all, it is about supporting each other and providing a safe and comfortable learning environment and a positive experience while enrolled in these programs.

*Please be aware mentors should not be revealing confidential information regarding course material (facilitation expectations, answers to tests, etc.).*

We strongly recommend choosing to sign up as both a mentor and mentee - mentorship is so important even as an upper level nursing student and will continue throughout your new grad years!

"Believe in yourself that you'll get there, but there is truth to it being a big transition - which is why having mentors is actually so important" - RN Grad Class of 2019

Please fill out the attached GoogleForm and we will be connecting mentees and mentors!

Please take a moment to help a fellow nursing student and aspiring scholar! Today is the last day to complete this survey.

Have a look at this research study from our University of the Fraser Valley Official Delegate about nursing studentsโ€™ comfort and knowledge in caring for LGBTQ2S+ clients! How can we improve our curriculums to adequately prepare nursing students to care for this population? The survey can be found at https://www.surveymonkey.ca/r/HK7TRGD #CNSA #studentleadership #studentresearch #diversity #LGBTQ2S

โ€œMy name is Shelby Kennedy and I am a third year nursing student at the University of the Fraser Valley. This semester I am taking a directed studies elective course through my nursing program, which involves creating a student research project. I chose to explore the knowledge and comfort levels of nursing students when caring for transgender patients, based on the nursing education they are provided with. This will look at whether nursing curriculum can be improved when it comes to LGBTQ2S+ health care. I am looking for current nursing students, who are attending a chapter school of the CNSA, to participate by filling out the online survey found here: https://www.surveymonkey.ca/r/HK7TRGD The survey will be open until March 14th (this deadline has been extended!). I would also appreciate if students could share this information with their cohort at school. I am looking forward to the results of this research and canโ€™t wait to share with everyone, and hopefully implement some changes based on these findings. If anyone would like to know more about this project, feel free to contact me at [email protected].โ€

[03/01/19]   A precedent-setting case is unfolding in the US regarding med errors, overriding safety measures and criminal responsibility.

If a nurse can be criminally responsible for the death of a patient, fewer nurses might report errors, to the detriment of quality practice.
