Have you heard of IATSM (Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation)?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As the name suggests this particular treatment is used to release soft-tissue, including skin, myofascia, muscles, tendons and nerves.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Specific instruments with stainless steel edges and contours conform to different parts of the body, allowing for deeper manipulation.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This technique causes minimal pain, and is usually performed for 1-5 minutes. Patients may experience temporary redness around the treatment area (which is a normal response).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Results often include:
-Reduced tightness
-Reduced pain and swelling
-Improved mobility
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
IATSM can be used to treat:
- Medial Epicondylitis, Lateral Epicondylitis (Tennis Elbow)
-Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
-Neck Pain
-Plantar Fasciitis
-Rotator Cuff Tendonitis
-Patellar Tendonitis
-Heel Pain /Achilles Tendonitis
-DeQuervain's Syndrome
-Post-Surgical and Traumatic Scars
-Musculoskeletal Imbalances
-Ligament Sprains/ Muscle Strains
-Bursitis
-IT Band Syndrome
-Shin Splints
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Have a chat with your practitioner about whether this treatment may be suitable for you, or give us a call on (02) 46483653.

Paul's showing off his beachside views and his favourite morning stretch! ☀️
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Who else would get up and get moving a lot earlier if they had these views? 🙋🙋

03/09/2021

Not to be outdone, Phil shows us a snippet of his morning stretch routine... 🧘‍♂️
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Do you have a morning stretch routine?

02/09/2021

How does a physiotherapist start her morning? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Cathleen shows us her favourite morning stretch:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A straddle sit with side bend to stretch adductors, hamstrings, quadratus lumborum and lats. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Then pancake split to deepen adductor stretch followed by sitting knees side to side for lower back mobility. 👏👏

How does a chiropractor start their day?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Ray shows us his favourite hip mobility routine!

26/08/2021

How many chiropractors does it take to change a lightbulb?
We don't know, but it took both Phil and Paul to put our new toy together... Any ideas what it might be?

Not all headaches are created equal 🤕⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Recently, we have seen an influx in headache complaints within the clinic.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Most commonly we have received complaints of tension headaches and migraines.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Tension headaches may be triggered by stress, and patients usually experience a dull, aching sensation all over the head. The headache may also be accompanied by tenderness around the neck, shoulders, forehead and scalp.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Migraines, on the other hand, are characterised by a deep pulsing/throbbing sensation inside the head. Patients may experience sensitivity to sound and light, and may experience nausea. Prior to the pain, patients may have visual disturbances, such as shimmering or zig-zag vision.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
With so many people under a lot of stress, and working from home, headache complaints are becoming more common.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If your pain is severe or long-lasting, the best thing to do is pop into the clinic for an assessment and treatment by one of our trained practitioners!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Shoot us a DM or give us a call on (02) 4648 3653!

We are digging through the archives this week and found this dry-needling gem!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
During a dry-needling treatment, a thin sterile needle is inserted into 'trigger points' in the muscle. This causes the muscle to twitch (or cramp) and relax, releasing muscular tension!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

In case no one told you (or someone forgot to update our socials.... 😆), we are back in the clinic!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We have a few extra COVID-Safe procedures in place, including our COVID-Screening form which is linked in the text/email reminder the day before your appointment.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As an allied health service, we are still able to operate for urgent appointments. If you have any questions or concerns, we urge you to give us a call on (02) 4648 3653.

By now, most of you will have received our email regarding our temporary closure (if you haven’t, it might be time to update your contact details with us! 😉)

With yesterday’s announcement of further lockdown restrictions for Greater Sydney, MSK Therapy has made the difficult decision to temporarily close for the remainder of this anticipated lockdown period.

This is not a decision we have come to lightly.

We understand the impact of this decision on our patients and staff, however we feel this is the best decision we can make in order to keep our community safe.

We intend to reopen for business the week commencing the 2nd of August 2021.

If you have an appointment booked between now and then, rest assured that our friendly reception staff will be in touch over the coming days to reschedule your appointment.

We understand how frustrating, stressful and uncertain this time is for all. We ask that you show our staff respect and kindness as we navigate these difficult circumstances.

Whilst the clinic is closed, the phone line will be diverted. If you have any questions or concerns during this time, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We will attend to your call as soon as we are able. Our contact number is (02) 4648 3653.

If you have an urgent treatment enquiry, please call us on (02) 4648 3653, and we will arrange for a practitioner to call you back to discuss your specific needs.

We cannot even begin to express how grateful we are for your support, past and ongoing. The past 12 months have not been easy for any small business, but our incredible MSK community makes it easier.

Stay safe, stay warm, and we will see you again in a few short weeks!

All the office workers reading this, stand up! 🙋‍♂‍🙋‍♀‍ (No, really. It’s time to stand!)

Today we are sharing our top tips for office workers to reduce discomfort and pain.

-Get up and move every 30 minutes!
A good way to remember is to set a reminder alarm on your phone or computer.

Another good way to remember is to keep a half-full glass of water on your desk. When it’s empty, it’s time to get up a refill. Stay hydrated AND get moving (multi-tasking!)

-Use a headset instead of a hand-held phone for prolonged phone calls

-Keep all frequently used items within half-arms reach

-Elevate computer screen to eye-level

-Avoid leaning head forward and compressing the back of the neck

-Speak to your employer, or consider investing in a sit-stand desk

-Check in with a trusted practitioner to make sure you are looking after your body in the best possible way

Why is it important to train for both strength AND flexibility?

Strength and flexibility are closely related. However over-training one over the other can result in injury.

-Too much flexibility without enough strength in any any joint lead to joint instability. This happens as you may not be able to control your joint throughout the whole range of movement.

- Too much strength without enough flexibility can result in the joint being unable to handle the load you put on it, which can lead to muscle tearing, sprain or strains, and postural changes

Long term, this imbalance can increase the risk of degenerative joint disease or arthritis with age.

This can take a long time to occur, but commonly goes unnoticed as we go on with our daily lives. A balance between building strength alongside flexibility can help to delay or avoid these conditions.

If you have concerns about strength or flexibility, give us call on (02) 4648 3653 to find out how we can help!
