New trails now open👏👏
The awesome new Murray Valley Trails in Dwellingup are now open. We are incredibly proud of what the Common Ground Team have created with our latest trails Busted Nuts, Quokkamoly and Tombstone. Busted Nuts offers a style of trail not typically seen in WA and more commonly found in Bike Parks around the world. With its big hips and large lips, we think it's going to be crowd favourite and is sure to bust the nuts of even the savviest trail connoisseur. Quokkamoly has berms for days and ends with a fun dual slalom section to race your mates.
Common Ground is grateful to have been involved in the Murray Valley trails project for over six years! We originally started with the preparation of the concept plan on which the entire built network reflects closely. We have since progressed through various stages of the detailed design and construction, designing the vast majority of trails and constructing 7 of the 15 trails.
Well done to our friends at Three Chillies and Magic Dirt who built the remainder of the trails we designed, with a few tweaks to give them their own flavour😁. We 'hear' they ride great!
Special thanks to our full team and the legends at Parks and Wildlife who all work tirelessly to make riding opportunities in WA a reality.
We look forward to seeing you out there!

Murray Valley Trails Dwellingup
WA’s first purpose-built trails centre is officially open and welcoming a keen influx of trails and adventure enthusiasts!
The Dwellingup Trails and Visitor Centre is the place to go before and after hitting the adventure town’s mountain bike, walk, paddle, railway, four-wheel drive and horse trails.
The Centre is equipped with bike wash area, hot showers and toilets, with a café, laundromat, trails retail and equipment hire and shuttle service to commence operation in the next few months following a recent expression of interest process.
Local Dwellingup business Dwellingup Adventures, has been selected as the successful proponent to lease and operate the trails related commercial activities. The appointment is subject to a public advertising period and approval by the Minister for Lands.
The Centre’s visitor servicing has been enhanced digitally with the incorporation of virtual reality and interactive screens as well as a destination magazine and new, dedicated tourism website set to launch next week.
Through the project, the Hotham Valley Tourist Railway is now a central feature of Dwellingup’s tourism offering, as a key component of the Trails Centre precinct.
Murray and the Dwellingup community are proud to be the first to deliver this key piece of infrastructure for Western Australian trail users.
The Centre is open Monday to Sunday 9:00am to 4:00pm (closed Christmas Day) and is located in Marinup Street, Dwellingup.
The Dwellingup Trails and Visitor Centre project was supported by the Australian Government’s Building Better Regions Fund and Dwellingup Community Association Inc. with fit-out supported by Alcoa and the State Government’s Regional Economic Development Grants Program which is delivered by the Peel Development Commission.

WestCycle is seeking your input to develop the strategic plan for all forms of bike riding for the next decade. The current strategic framework for cycling - "Our Bike Path" (available on our website) is due for renewal this year and we want to hear your views.
We are seeking input from all segments of the riding community – from Mum’s and Dad’s who ride with the kids to the park, commuters, river loop and trail riders, BMX'ers and all the way through to our competitive and elite athletes.
Your participation is critical to ensure that the new strategy reflects the needs of the riding community. The survey will take 5 - 10 minutes to complete and we would love to see as many people as possible taking the time to help shape the future focuses for bike riding in Western Australia.
Take the survey here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/R5LQQS7
Woo hoo! Now to decide which distance...🤔

A great time to get into hiking and trail running 🏃♀️
WA Hiking Strategy launched! – https://bit.ly/2Yqe4IC Much-anticipated 10-year Strategy launched today by Sport and Rec Minister Mick Murray focuses on traditional bushwalking and also on trail running; an Australian-first. Minister remarked “Our hiking trails experienced record levels of participation over April and May and we want to make sure Western Australians continue to enjoy hiking and trail running.” The strategy will help ensure bushwalking in WA grows strongly, supported by quality trails that encourage participation. WA Govt has allocated $250,000 toward the funding and development of hiking and trails over the next three years.
HikeWest, member clubs, and the wider bushwalking community contributed very strongly to the strategy development.Thank-you to all bushwalkers who provided input.A Hiking Implementation Reference Group has now been formed to develop the strategy implementation plan including the prioritisation of the strategy recommendations and to identify specific initiatives that will support the plan.
